3.91 to 3.23 '64 D100 slant six

Post by 2bluesweptlines »

Eventually, I'd like to swap in an A833 overdrive for the A745 three speed, but just for a quick fix, I want to swap the 3.91s for 3.23s I'm doing it for reduced rpms at highway speed and increased fuel economy. The slant six has plenty of power to run the 3.23s, so I am not worried about that. Correct me if I am wrong, but I can just change the pinion and ring gear and nothing else, correct? When I purchase the new gears, do I need to look out for anything like pinion spline count, ring gear bolt pattern changes, etc?

Thanks,
Stephan

I got it from this guy. His name is John and he is pretty knowledgable. His number is on the page and within 2 minutes of calling him, I figured out he had just what I wanted for a pretty good price. For a whole 3.23 pumkin/center section/chunk/whatever you want to call it, he charged me $200, not too bad.

Hey Stephan,

I'm working on the same 4 speed swap as you in my '63. On that note I think I read something once about the A833s having two different stickout diameters between the early and late models but I seem to be having trouble re-finding it. Ever heard of such a thing?

Dusty, PM sent so as not to thread hi-jack.

Stephan, sounds like you got a sweet deal on that pumpkin. Let me know how you like the 3.23s with the slant.
