I think one would run into many of the same problems as swapping in a new Hemi. There probably isn't an aftermarket to support it like there is fo the Hemi though. If everything is there from the donor car it might not be too bad but everything is controlled by the computer and it would use that throttle by wire setup too. If you are going to go through all the trouble you might as well just get a Hemi.

It would be interesting to see how they are wired and what
it would take to swap. But my guess is it could be a near
nightmare. Can't begin to imagine what the computer is
up to on those cars!

One thing to be aware of when contemplating a swap from a later model Mopar. If the donor car had the key with the security chip built in you can not dis-able it in the computer, according to an article in Hot Rod magazine. Possibly you could use the steering column with the original ignition switch but that would involve a lot more work. You can buy an aftermarket computer for some engine swaps that only has what you need to make the engine run but it's probably expensive.

Aftermarket computers arent crazy expensive, about as much as an original one.

If everything comes with it, which it sounds like it does, it cant be that hard. No harder than what I've done. Just takes a bit of time, patience, and some skill. Certain computers dont come with the security. For example, the computer that I got with my 5.7 didnt have security on it, but it was from a truck. I traded it in for credit on on the correct one I needed. I've heard that it is more common for security to come on the higher end cars.

I'd still try it, not for speed or shock value, but for economy. $600?! Cant go wrong for that. My engine/computer/harness ran me over five times that.

Extreme 4x4's on the power block (the show with the welder babe) recently did a 5.7 hemi swap into a TJ jeep. You might check their website for insight on this

The security chip isn't just in the "High End" cars, wife had a PT Cruiser we had a new key made and it would only fire for 1 second and then shut down.
I had a 3.5 in the 300M I owned, this was Chryslers best kept secret, they are very fast, and I agree with Steven the swap wouldn't be that bad, if you remember on the engine considerations for the 68 I have the 3.5 is in the top ten, however after owning one, I know the gas mileage in town isn't as good as I would like, the horsepower is definetly their, 2002 300m was 255hp from the factory very nice car, I was so impressed with the way the car handled and could understand fully why it was in the SPORT LUXURY class, it creates more "G" force in cornering than the Vette!

Robin, I also have a PT Cruiser. If you have both of the original keys you can program the new key to work by putting one key in and turning it on, then turn it off and put the other original in and turn it on and off, then put the new key in and turn it on and it will beep after a few seconds. When it beeps the new key is programmed. The procedure is in the owners manual. This will probably work for any Mopar with the security keys.

but its too late, and the key we got was made at Wal Mart and they don't have chips so theirs no way to program it The PT Cruiser had to go, we are going to get the wife a Patriot

Robin, just curious, why did you get rid of the PT? My wife still has hers and loves it. I think it's about the most versitle small car you can get.
Keep the tip about programming the keys handy, the Patriot will probably have the security keys too. You can only program your own key if you have two other keys. I bought mine off of Ebay for $10. If you loose a key and have to go to the dealer it will cost a lot more.

main reason was the front end too low, wife kept hitting curbs, and when it snows after 4" it would start to build up in the front and act like a plow, finances aslo played into the equation, the Pt Cruiser is very versitale and for only having a 2.4 it would move out good, wife isn't real watchful of what she's doing , like instead of missing pot holes she'll hit everyone even the ones I never saw, plus we found that going down dirt roads the Pt wasn't a good fit.
