Depends on how badly damaged. May still be good, or more than likely good as a core. I'd say $2-400.

Re: Is a 440 out of a burned RV worth anything?
Pretty sure it's just a core. Burned pretty good. I have a '69 swepty that has a 6 cyl with a hole in the block in the bed. Thinking about grabbing the 440 ouf the RV before I scrap it for maybe some day when I can rebuild it and drop it in the swepty.
Anyone know any differences between the RV and car/truck engines? I think I remember hearing the water pump was HD and maybe reverse rotation.

Re: Is a 440 out of a burned RV worth anything?
if it has V-belts it is normal rotation,,,,,sertpentine belt driven pumps are reverse rotation.

An RV 440 may have the extra reinforcing webbs on the side of the block. If it does it is worth saving. Dont send it to the bone yard!
Check out 44source.com and look at the "everything you wanted to know about blocks" section.

There is a old man in Fresno, CA that keeps trying to give me a 77 Dodge moter home with a 440/727. He is in the Studebaker club and when I pulled up to his house in my 75 D100 he said "hey if you like Dodge then you will want this moterhome" ![Thinking :thinking](./images/smilies/icon_think.gif)

Scrap metal prices are high now. Grab the drivetrain and scrap the rest.

The RV was completely burned by arson. Anyone rebuilt an engine that went thru a fire before?

Re: Is a 440 out of a burned RV worth anything?
I have been seeing bare 440 blocks going for silly money lately, unless it is completely toast, grab it!
I am no engine expert, or fire expert either, but I would take a look at the crank. If it is still
usable, then the rest of the block might be OK. If the crank got hot enough to be damaged,
then I don't know. Otherwise, you are probably looking at at least $2500 to do right. That is about
what I have in my 440. The steel crank was kept, need so repair from a spun bearing. The heads
were lightly gone through, nothing fancy, I plan to replace them with 440 Source heads.
Everything else was replaced, and the cylinders were bored. The block was magnafluxed
and checked for square, those will be critical for you.

Hola All
The best "bang for the buck" heads for any 361-383-400-413-426 wedge or 440 not using the -3 compontants is the latest ones with the casting number ending with 452. They have the best sized valves, the harded seats, the best internal cooling and they flow air at a very good rate. At local pick & pulls thet are at $50 bucks a pair now.
Here is an link from another site on the slant six ... http://www.allpar.com/slant6.html .
Hmmmmn slant six with pulley's from an A/C versation, clutch cooling fan from an A/C versation, the 2 bbl carb and etc from an Super Six. Hmmmmn
Clean the 440 up and sell it.

One thing to remember...heat rises! I have been running a 727 out of a motorhome that had a carb fire that melted the carb into a blob.I put in new oil and filter, front and rear seals, new dipstick(the plastic end was melted off).Haven't had a bit of trouble with it.
