how many lugs depends on size of the truck, 1/2 ton has 5, 3/4 and 1 ton had 8, bigger ones had 6. as far as the w's being available in short box, yes they were, 1/2 and 3/4 for sure, not sure about the w300's i have never seen one that wasnt built that way by the owner.

A W100 is rated as a 1/2 ton with an 8 lug axle. Jim

A 66 W100 will have eight lugs. A 69 and later W100 will have five. I think the only dfference in a pre-69 W100 and a 200 was a different spring rate. Also you could get a short bed 100 but don't think 200's came that way. I had a 67 short wide W100 a few years back.
