Finding a clutch disc?

Post by slick »

:banghead I have a 67 d-100 slant 6 three on the tree, I need a new clutch disc and I'm having a hard time finding one..I belive it is an 11" clutch, but the problem I am having is that I believe it is only 10 spline and every disc the stores have shown is 23 spline like a 4-speed...Does anyone know who sells the disc I am looking for?

10 spline is standard 3 speed and 4 speed in your year.
If their book says otherwise, their book is wrong.
Napa should have it, but you will have to have the
guy dig it up in the book......
If for some reason you can't get it at one store try a
differant Napa, one that has been around for a lot of
years will most likely best one to check at.
In the worse case you can always take it a shop
the relines clutch plates, but if your in a small
town you may not have a shop handy that does
that work.
23 spline did not start being used till 69, or 70, if I recall.

hey slick, be carfull to check the pressure plate as well. the 67 had a 3 arm pressure plate, the 69 and up used a diaphfram type plate. usually, if they pull the 23 spline disc, the pressure plate will be a diaphram style they try to give you. borg and beck is the manufacturer i recommend. i ordered mine thru napa, and after 3 years, and numerous over loadings, burn outs, and general ragging the hell out of it, its still going strong. :Thumbsup

I had a similar problem finding a clutch set for my '66 W300. NAPA only carried the t/o bearing. The pp and disc would have to be ordered from a rebuilder back east. I took my pp and disc to local place who rebuild them for a lot cheaper than what NAPA was going to charge.

:withstupid Maybe that's my problem? My truck was originally a 3 on the tree, then I switched it to a 4 speed, but when I went back to the 3 speed I used the t/o bearing and pressure plate from the 4-speed...Probably not a good idea huh?

all the clutch parts are the same 4 spd or 3 spd :Thumbsup interchanging them will not cause problems.

alright jeff, besides the obvious problem of them being worn out, swapping shouldnt be a problem! LMAO!!

when i converted from 3spd on the column to 4 on the floor, i never touched the clutch, never even removed the bell housing, just took out one tranny, swapped tranny humps, and installed the other. big difference is in the drive line. the 3spd has a one pice shaft, the 4spd has a 2 piece with a carrier bearing, and the bolts to hold the 4spd on are in a different location, and a couple sizes larger. but the bells are drilled for both. and trust me, just because the 3spd bolts act like they will snug it up, it doesnt mean they will hold it for long. not that I did this :pale , but a little birdy told me they are different. :dance
