'65 slant six transmission questions
My '65 First Series D200 225 has the 3 speed manual. I had a Hurst floor shifter installed because my long legs kept getting in the way of the column shifter. It's an ok fix, but would like to do something better.
I have a few options, and open to ideas/comments
I have access to a 70s NP435 from a truck with a slant six. But from my research, this is not an easy swap
I also have an A833 o/d from a later truck. Research also shows this to not be an easy swap
Is there an automatic that will work fairly easily with the slant? That would let my wife drive it some too.
Or what 4 speed should I look for?

UPDATE: I have a line on a '68 4 speed trans, from a 1/2 ton slant six truck. Will this one work?

That one will work fine. Should be the same bell also, but check to be sure.

If your current trans has the e-brake on the end, then get and swap in a later rear axle with the e-brake.

There are many slant 6 trucks with an auto behind them. 61-68 with all the dash shifter components incl the dash itself are bolt in. Early ones will have the ebrake on the tail.

I have done the column to floor conversion in a Dart. The tricky part was adding the hydraulic linkage, making a bracket to hold the slave cylinder, but if you have access to a welder it's not difficult . If you are not doing heavy work with the truck and just want a driver, I'd go with the A833-od. The Hurst on that makes for a very positive linkage with good feel to it, but I don't know about a floor shift lever for a Hurst in a truck.

you can convert the trans to have the ebrake on the back. I bet most the parts off the 3 speed set up will work. some one here might have the rest. much better than wheel ebrake
