Leaning tower or poly?

Post by 1meanswepty »

I have been kicking around the the idea of a new project. Exactly what I need... I usually lean towards big v8 power but fuel economy is looking more attractive. What are your thoughts on the slant 6 or poly? Leaning towards a stock rebuild on a poly. The truck would be a 64 short utiline with Dana 60/70. Thank you.

If your trying to go for economy why a 60/70 . More mass equals drag and loss of efficiency. 8 3/4 gives easy gear swaps if needed.

I like big axles. I will go with the poly. Ive never owned one and wanted feed back on how people feel about them.

There awesome engines when you lift the hood people think its a big cube engine by looking at the size of it.I have one I pulled from a 1966 D500 its a premium engine 318/3 nice thing about it has a 12 inch clutch if interested in any of the parts from it let me know it had 68000 miles on it ran when I pulled it.

Okay I will. Thank you. What is different with the -3 engines? I've heard they used different valves but other than that I am not sure.

Hubbard

-3 ( pronounced --- dash three ) means the bearings - Rings and etc are the best of the best for what ever engine that you are speaking
about. In side-walk/ curb language it is the same parts used on Performance or Diesel Engines.

Every A-318 used in 1 Ton and larger series of Dodge Trucks are all a Hydraulic Valve & Lifter Assembly vs a solid valve and lifter assembly

The Engine Valves are of a beefier compound as you noted - and this is with every truck engine.

The way you are asking makes me think the original engine in your truck is a ( Truck Spec'd ) Slant Six ( with a double Row Timing Chain and etc ).
