So I pull in my shop today and my guy sez...hey you have an exhaust leak..
So I pop the hood and go looking [and listening] Exhaust is aok... noise is coming from the front of the mill... I take the belt off, put my hand in there and sure enough, I can feel the head gasket leaking [compression] right out the very front...
Ever hear of that before? Can I 'sneak' in a new gasket without removing the manifolds and just picking up the head?

You can pull the head without removing the manifolds. I would check the surfaces and make sure there not warped. If the surfaces are good i would replace the gasket and the bypass hose thet goes from the head to the water pump. Make sure you torque the head correctly. The torque is very important on the 225's.

For the next fella with an exhaust leak coming from the front of his slant six head.....Don't, DON'T, whip the head off...replace the 5/8 frost plug in the front of the head behind the heater hoses [impossible to see with the hoses on]
It will have a rust hole in it and it's located in an exhaust port.
[Sigh] .58 cent part....
