cleaning

Post by dodgeman02 »

So I was wanting to clean out my motor. A couple ppl have said pour a little diesel in the gas and others have said pour in the oil. Is it okay to do this? Or will it mess stuff up I have some dyed just sitting around I used to flush a atv motor. And need to find something to do with it. What are your thoughts on this?

I have never used diesel fuel added to engine oil (not saying you can't do it)to clean a motor but have used auto trans fluid on many occasions. One quart for 4 to 5 quarts oil. Drive it for a few hundred miles and change. Repeat as necessary. The other way to clean a motor up over a period of time is to run diesel rated oil like 15/40. I run this in all my vehicles.
My 66W100 /97 1500/96 CUMMINS RAM/1970 D500 BB. Also ran it for years in a 2.2 Chrysler New Yorker.

I have done the diesel fuel thing a few times and it does work, pour in about a quart in to the crankcase and run it to work and back or something, then drain it. I would not work the motor like pulling a trailer or anything but get it warmed up good then drain. Real bad engines with a lot of sludge I would not drive them far, if enough crap in there it can plug up the suction screen on the oil pump. My room mate in college did the tranny fluid down the carb thing and fogged out the whole dorm parking lot plus fouled out his plugs so he had to change them. I have heard good things about seafoam in the gas and in the crankcase, still on the fence about that one, seemed to help my wife's Durango but not sure about the stuff enough to really recommend it yet.
