The MoPar A-500 or the A-518 which was used in the first series Over-Drive
is what you want. The were used mostly in The Dodge 1500 and 2500 Vans.
The Dakota and The Dodge Ram Trucks also used them too ( but not the same
number count as what was put in vans ).
The largest engine/ vehicle used with The A-500's is The LA-360 in an 2500
Truck or Van.
The A-518 is an HD option that could be in any Dakota - Ram Truck or Van ( even
if it had the 3.9 Liter V6.
You will want The Torque Converter/ Flex Plate - The Dust/ Dirt Cover which is on
the lower part of the transmission - The Transmission - The Transmission to Cross-
Memeb Bracket and The Bracket - The Slip Joint/ U-Jount - The Speed-O Unit that is
part of the transmission - The Reverse Light Connection ( and as much as the wiring that
you can snip ) that is part of the transmission The linkage that connectes The Carb to The
Transmission ( get this from any 1980 something 2 bbl Dodge Truck which has an auto and
The Over-Drive Connection that is mounted to the transmission ( it only has three wires )
and the O/ D off-on Button that is on the left of the Steering Wheel of the donor vehicle.
About six inches of the donor's Transmission Cooling Lines is also nice to get. Here in Colo
Spgs at the local pick and pull all of this is what you get for $100 and an core ( it can be an
worn out auto from an Pinto ).
Some Dodge Trucks have an OEM Additional Transmission Cooler mounted in front of their
Radiator and many full sized Jeeps have them too. The pick & pull price is much lower
than an new box at the parts store.
The 1963 Bell Housing weighs as much as an medium bag of cement.
The 1963 Transmission weighs as much as a "contractor's large bag of cement".
The Fly Wheel and Clutch Pack will brake you foot if you drop it on it.
*******************************************************************************************************************
The second series 1993 or newer Automatic Over-Drives require an computor that monitors the
vehicles speed - the position of the "fuel feed" and etc-etc-etc.
*******************************************************************************************************************
You will need The Dex/Merc #4 Fluid. Walmart's House Brand has the correct lab spec's and
the cost is OK.

Re: '63 318 poly to 4 speed AOD? (D 200)
Hi Roger,
Thanks ,
You directed me here before but I couldn't fine the previous post.
So far (ubder your direction...)
I've put in a Dakota 5 speed, Workes great, knocked off about 150 + lb total from the old granny 4spd.
Duel exhayst to a single can (works/sounds terrific).
Put a flex fan in , cut down noise.
I jist re did the spring bushings with Poly and re-adjusted the box, feels like new.
Now, I'm using the truck in LA traffic more & am needing (wanting) power steering (+ living on an island withh narrow streets & parallel parking a longbed is risky business)
so power steering and an auto (+ taller rearend gears ) are the next move.
Any thoughts here?
Thanks
Jim

Re: '63 318 poly to 4 speed AOD? (D 200)
I am using an A518 from a van with 4.10 gears (dana 60) on my late 65 D200. No real need for taller gears. My 318 Poly runs at about 2000 at 65mph on the highway. Best mod I have done on my truck!avaianas wrote:Hi Roger,
