Axle length question

Post by wayneswirld2 »

I've got an 8 3/4 SureGrip 3.91 rear end that has the slines on the ddriver axle 'buggered' up from the previous owner, this is from a 1965 D100. Found an axle from a '73 Dodge Adventurer with an 8 3/4 rear, same spline count. Wondering if there is a overall length difference in these two axles.

Here's the reason for asking; pline count was the same and diameter was the same, so I installed the '73 axle into the '65 rear end. Needed to replace the inner axle seal on the passenger side so I did. Now I'm having difficulty reinstalling the passenger axle, even BEFORE having to adjust the end play. I bolted down the 5 nuts on the flange and the axles are difficult to spin with the truck in neutral...and it's not the brakes dragging...drums aren't even installed.

Any ides?
