W100....more tire and wheel questions.

Post by n467us »

Looking to upgrade tires and wheels on a W100 (1964). Has 265/R16's now, but wanna put something bigger in there. Need to know what can fit.
What is the lug measurement for these trucks? Any and all information on this much appreciated

Hey Jim.........it's Gene. I had to add a new account here because when I updated the email address on this site it made me wait for an activation link that took forever. The link for activation came faster for the new account.
I was wanting to get the wheel pattern and backspacing correct for the rim/tire swap on the W100. Is the truck 16.5 or plain 16's?
I wonder if the 8 lug wheels on my 66 D200 are the same as yours?

I put 285/75/16's on my 1962 W100. My Uncle put 305/75/16's on his 1961 W100 and had to trim the front part of the fender so they wouldn't rub. I have Cooper STT tires and they handle, wear, and ride real well. Well maybe they would ride better if the suspension wasn't so stiff! They also have plenty of traction. :Thumbsup

I really don't wanna cut the fender, just get the most wheel/tire combo I can in there. Probably use a 16x8 rim as that seems to be readily available and cheap. Later on I can go bigger, what size rims are you mounting those 285/75R16's on?

Russ Roth is correct on the rim size, I was measuring The axle whole. I am doing o.k., getting rid of my clutch powered vehicles and getting into automatics. Jim

Is the spare tire dimple on the rear fender an option or did that just come on a particular model year. I'd consider putting a spare tire there if I could get the fender. It would be good to know what the largest tire that will fit in there be.
