So I am swapping out my hacked up transmission pan on my W300. Removed, I wanted to see what engages and what doesn't when I pull and push all the levers. Everything works the way it should and drives just fine(as fine as a W300 can).
So the truck is idling in neutral. NP201 is disengaged(front axle). I notice the driveshaft spinning from the T98A to the transfer case. Truck isn't moving and the ebrake stops the driveshaft from rotating and so does depressing the clutch pedal.
So...why is the driveshaft spinning with the trans in neutral?

Re: Sanity Check please
Similar confounded me too when changing my clutch. With driveshaft disconnected and trans in neutral, the yoke would spin, and with a fair amount of force.
I took it to my transmission guy, and he said that the spinning heavy oil is enough to do that. No physical connection, just basically a hydraulic connection. He also said something similar about some automatics.
He said that, after I connected the driveshaft back up, the increased resistance would overcome the oil, and all would be fine. He was correct.

Re: Sanity Check please
Thanks. Did your driveshaft stop spinning in neutral after you installed it?

Re: Sanity Check please
yes it did. the physical connection to the wheels gave the added resistance.
If I'm thinking about this correctly, your difference is that you don't have that for the front wheels.
Nevertheless, what you describe sure seems odd.
All you can take from me is what I described about my 2-wheel drive.
Hopefully others will address your 4-wheel drive.
