Shake, rattle and roll (i hope not)
Ok PW'ers, I have installed the 36" x 12.5" x 16.5" HUMVEE take offs on the 64 W100 I bought from JimE. They really make the truck look right But, tire shake At 40mph the front end steering wheel goes into a "death shake"
I need some input on how to reduce/stop this. I had the tires all balanced. And they are in good shape as far as wear goes.

That truck has entered THE BEAST category.Nothing will bring out suspension gremlins like big rubber. You'll get it worked out and it'll be worth the effort.Good luck,Joe
Re: Shake, rattle and roll (i hope not)
I HAVE 35/12.50 16.5 ON MINE AND STILL NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR THIS BEAST.

Wobble in the front end?
What causes the "wobble" in the front suspension? It is fairly mild with stock tires, but I am guessing there is a worn part down there somewhere.....
Re: Wobble in the front end?
Possible causes...... [to mention a few]menefreghista762 wrote:What causes the "wobble" in the front suspension? It is fairly mild with stock tires, but I am guessing there is a worn part down there somewhere.....
worn steering box
worn drag link
worn tie rod ends
bent wheel
broken belt in the tire
worn parts in front axle
change in geometry if the suspension was modified
[or a combination of any of the above...]
The stock tire size would likely be 7.50 x 16

Re: Shake, rattle and roll (i hope not)
one of these times when you have a front wheel off the ground grab it and try to push the top in and pull it out--
if it moves much you need to check the trunion bearings, also refered to as ball joints or king pins in some.
(wanted to cover all the names)
One of my books calls them the upper and lower knuckle bearings

Your 36" Hummer take off's, or as I call them "wander's" are bias ply. When I swapped from my mock up 36's and got some 37" Hummer MTR radials the diffrence was night and day in driving!

Not the tires, I have ruled that out, Something in the suspension is worn, it is worse on the left side, usually after I hit a bump at about 25mph, I do have a popping noise with suspension flex. Under my floorboard behind fender. Shackle bushing? I am going to have a friend with a shop go over it soon.Pwrwgnman wrote:Your 36" Hummer take off's, or as I call them "wander's" are bias ply. Re: Shake, rattle and roll (i hope not)
Finally got down to the suspension, the rubber bushing in both rear front spring eyes were toast. Install an overhaul kit and that should remedy the problem. Oh an how do you like the new paintmenefreghista762 wrote:Not the tires, I have ruled that out, Something in the suspension is worn, it is worse on the left side, usually after I hit a bump at about 25mph, I do have a popping noise with suspension flex.
