68 Hoods - Free! and 55/57 parts

I have 4-5 68 hoods in decent condition. All have a very minor issue somewhere, but are very straight and solid otherwise. Most still have decent factory paint. 68 is a one yr only hood so these are hard to find. If you want them, come and get em. Sending to the shredder soon.
Also have 2 nice doors from a 57 D100 and a nice left door from a 55 D100. Make offer
And, cherry hoods for 55 and 57. Make offer

The shape and design were only used in 1968. They combine the styling of the 61-67 hoods with the flat front of the 69-71 hoods.

I've got both in various stages of damage. I'll go look to see what I want to do. Which letters did they use in '68? By my recollection they were the 61-7 style as they hadn't pulled the "Power Wagon" badges like they did on my '69.

Thanks.

From 61-67 the front bottom edge of the hood drops down to follow the center of the grill, which dips down between the headlights. The headlight trim was lowered starting in 68 so the grill is straight across and does not dip down between the headlights. Thus, 68 hoods have the same style as the 61-67 hoods, but the bottom edge is straight to match the 68-71 grill shape. Hood emblems were the same 61-68.
Mark, I gave you the best one I had. If you want more for spares, come get em.

Thanks for the clarity on that. So what you are saying is that, as long as I want both a 68-9 style grille, and a cool lumpy hood, the '68 is the only hood for me.

Sold! What's the time frame? I'm also looking for a bigger commpressor. 5-7hp, with at least 12cfm at 90psi and 150 peak pressure... but I'm limited to about 40 amps. It's a pretty narrow window. Know of anything up there like that?

Watch craigslist for the compressor. Lots of closing shops these days, might find a good deal. Or, buy a pump and motor from Grainger and build your own.
I'll be moving the hoods to an accessible area in the next couple days. They can sit there for a few wks no problem. Before Thanksgiving would be nice.
And yes, 68 is the hood you want. Earlier hoods will work on 68-71, but there would be a large gap above the headlights. Later hoods on earlier trucks is problematic.

The '68 is clearly preferable with the '68 grille, but with the design of my new bumper, one might not see the difference.

Depends on the angle of view....and the Swepty astuteness of the viewer....

And said astutenss depends upon how far up it is inserted, and know less. This truck is a cobble. It's to be a '68 cab on a '67 frame after all with a Ch3vy front axle no less. So the "matching numbers" Swepty crowd would show their disdain no matter what I do. If I had been starting from scratch, I'd have looked for a W300, but the flatbed I have has rails spaced for a 200 frame. So I guess I'll be down in the hood grasping for air.

Having spent a week looking at Craig's List with people selling used compressors for $800-1000 that are all a bit small for my needs, I'm buying a new IR Model 2340L5 for $1500 delivered.

Hey Terry, sent you an email. Would be interested in a 68 hood for my 68 W300 (rough shape) along with some other parts.
