Movie remakes......terrible

Ok, to quote Dennis Miller, "I don't want to get off on a rant here....but"......I was looking on IMDB.com (internet movie database) for the trailer and news on the new hobbit movies coming out in December.....when I came across the news that they are remaking Red Dawn......this really pissed me off. Hollywood is on a huge spiral downward. They recently remade the worst storyline movie of all time..........Footloose. I always wondered if you could take a sh*ty movie and make it worse, and I got my answer.....yes they can.
No good can come of remaking Red Dawn. They also mentioned something to the fact that the invading country in the remake will be North Korea, to give a new more modern spin on things. Why can't people just leave good movies alone and come up with their own ideas for a change. I can't think of one remake that has ever been as good as the original.....now I know you guys will say that the hobbit will be a remake, but the original was a cartoon and that's a different subject altogether. I know mentioning my excitment for the hobbit movies makes me a nerd in a way, but who here hasn't heard of or read the books as kids (or even adults) I really wish people would just leave the classics alone and make a classic of their own. If they don't, when we are all dead and gone people wont every say "did you see that movie from the early 2000s, that's a classic" I feel we are all gonna see more of these crappy remakes of other peoples ideas much more now because people have gotten lazy.

You pretty much summed up Chrysler with the new Dart.

I think 'True Grit' stands its ground nicely against the original...but I'm tired of the remakes...for one thing the last generation off GREAT actors that had heart, soul and style are getting too old to be taken seriously, and NOBODY in Hollywood these days has the charisma and character to fill those shoes...it's a much softer and gentler Hollywood these days...it's all downhill from here with maybe a few brief glimpses of hope along the way...

I agree, True Grit 2010 was a very good remake. I very much enjoyed the movie.
I'm a bit worried about the remaking of "Red Dawn".
2012 casting above
1984 casting below
It's kinda sad i have to point that out... LOL
It does have one good thing going for it...... Adrianne Palicki

She is pretty smokin Scott I will give you that.......now that being said, they could have put her in a movie that isn't a rehash of an older flick and it would be even better

Also I never saw the remake of true grit....and I probably never will. I will never go see another remake as long as I live, if they want my entertainment dollars they better have their own ideas and stories

lol I just cant sit and watch a remake movie.......i cant listen to remade music either.......or sampled music for new songs (ie. Take a look at my girlfriend by Gym Class Heroes, which is a rip off of Breakfast in America by Supertramp) People need to do their own damn music and movies. I give Metallica a pass for their Garage, Inc. album though because the whole album was remakes and they stated that before hand. I just want to slap someone everytime i hear "Hey did you hear that new song by Such adn Such, its awesome" to which i usually reply "NO IT SUCKS, its a rip off of a band that did it before"

It also crushed me to learn when i was younger, that Hard to Handle by the Black Crowes (which is an awesome band) was a remake of an older song

Bands doing cover tunes doesn't bother me as long as they do it there own way, with their own spinn or twist to it. The Grateful Dead did covers of some other bands and did them well, did them their own way as other bands have from time to time.
As far as Hollywood goes, they put out so few movies worth watching (imo) that I don't even pay attention anymore. Some of the best movies I've seen were from small independents on Sundance Channel. I think Duel is the best movie that Steven Spielberg ever made. another

I take it you aren't a big Zeppelin fan then. All these are covers:
Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You
Dazed and Confused
Gallows Pole
I Can't Quit You Baby
In My Time of Dying
Nobody's Fault but Mine
Travelling Riverside Blues
When the Levee Breaks
You Shook Me
(Many more)
Or how about Jimi Hendrix
All Along the Watchtower
Hey Joe
Wild Thing
Star Spangled Banner
(many more lesser known covers)
Many bands do covers of their influences and it isn't ripping them off. There are probably many songs you aren't aware that they are covered. Also there are many artists who don't write their own music.

Oh i know all those are remaks, (you forgot to add that the song Kashmir is highly regarded as ripped off cuz Jimmy Page stole the guitar riff from an old unkown blues singer) I just wish people would come up with new ideas and not have to make a retread. Now bands just starting out and playing bars and stuff, i dont care if they do covers, but if they release an album....no covers please.
Also Jimi's ONLY #1 hit he ever had (All along the watch tower) was a remake

Anyways, the main premise of the thread was to state that Movie remakes are always terrible and they should just stop. Oh they are also putting out another version of Spiderman already, not a sequel, another version........
