Just sent out my D200 CSS"s radio for an overhaul!!! I can't wait to get it back! Ward's Classic Car Radio Repair is going to give it an overhaul, keeping it original, and replacing the crystal. But also adding on a plug on a cord out the back, that will allow me to plug in my MP3 player or other device, while not having to modify what I got. I am diggin this idea. The original radio has so much character I couldn't think of replacing it!

They have mine, and they are really great people. I will say that they have had it since May, so they may have yours for a while. I am trying to get a diagram of the tuner assembly to help them out a bit since they are having trouble with reassembly right now....

So it was your radio he and I were talking about!!! lol. That's funny. Small world. he gave me a quick run down of the problem, and I gave him a call back after taking mine out, and let him know an oddity I noticed. The Brass gear that drives the needle was not held secure by any pins or anything, but glued in order not to rotate around the spindle shaft. To get the radio out I had to take a needle and slowly chip away the epoxy holding in on. Took me 20 minutes to figure out why the heck the darn thing wouldn't just slide off!!!! Finally got it out of the truck, and everything put back together. But that is one thing he wont be able to fix. That is something we are going to have to do when we re-install the radios. That gear has to come off in order to allow the tuner spindle to fit through the hole in the dash. With the radio just sitting on the table, he could get the spacing perfect, and still the gear would not turn the needle, because its not glued secure. I would make a bet, your radio is done, and ready to be installed!

These pictures are right before I took the radio out. You can see a black retaining c clip on the far outside of the brass gear. then once that was off the grear should just slide off. didn't happen. that point is where it had been epoxy'd in place. And as I'm sure you experienced, that is how you have to get the radio out, taking off all those little pieces. Hope this helps ya some!

very happy with the results but it took nearly 6 months for them to do it.

i also bought a new speaker on Ward's recommendation. it made all the difference.

With the economy as it is... you would think that these guys would be "more on the ball" with the turn around.

I think it's a one-man shop with a long waiting list of work. He's pretty good at estimating the turn time on it. Hopefully my comments don't express disappointment because for the price I firmly feel it was worth the wait.

Yeah I appreciate the service. Its cheaper than other places and he even used to work the radio line for chrysler if i understand correctly.

I also was not in a hurry so i didnt care about time.

OK, I understand now, I didn't realize it was a one man shop. I already know how hard that is, because I was a one man shop at our body shop. That is really tough and I can appreciate that radio guy better now. Hopefully I didn't come across as being... "mean" to the guy.
