What MPGs are people getting? I have a 66 w200 crewcab short step side with a slant 6 np435 tranny 4.10 gears and i get 15mpg. I would like to build a d100 with a slant 6 and shave as much weight to see what kinda MPGs are possible.

I just was checking my MPG this week, and it's about 14 in town. I have a '65 D200, 318 poly, 4spd w/4.10 rear end....and the carb could still stand some adjusting.

I would say if your getting 15mpg your doing very well. A 64 W100 shortbox I had only managed 10 and it had the same geared axles that you have without the crewcab weight. Jim

Try removing the heavy advance weight spring from your distributer and make sure your total timing is correct along with your vacuum advance unit working correctly. These changes will help maximize your power and economy. Dave

I've seen 20mpg a couple times in my '68 D200 318 with 3.54 gears, travelling ~55-65mph. I'll have a more thorough idea after the Garlits swap meet next weekend-I'll be driving about 4 hours each way. Got new tires too, so should have no problem running 70 on the turnpike.

Hey, the mileage on these older LA and A engines doesn't seem too bad. I have a 99 Dakota with a 5.2 (318) it only gets about 12-13 in the city and 19 on the highway if I am lucky. Now it is a 4wd but still.....That's after getting a CAI and Mopar Performance PCM. Before it was about 2mpg worse. I just can't wait to get my 65 with the 318 Poly and see what it does! I also think that the weight of that big Crew Cab 4wd is allot for a 6 to push around. What is the weight on your CC?

Interesting. I recently checked mine and it was slightly better than 11 mpg around town and 13 on the highway. The truck is a 1970 D100 shortbed 2WD automatic with 3.23 gears. I've done only a basic tune-up. I'm sure the carb could use a re-build (or maybe an upgrade! ). I must admit that I'm enjoying this thing so much I haven't had the Dart out on the road in two weeks!

wow....heavy truck! The new ones....well not new but like the 2002 was about 5700 (4x4 big cab) and change with a 5.9v8 (360). The 5.9 would pull it over the mountain passes pretty good. Not sure about mileage but man....a 6 pulling 6100 seems like a big stress on it.

Wow you guys are getting 12-15! :Thumbsup
I'm getting 7-8 mpg :pale
However the 413, 3.55, 727, and 100 mph+ run might have something to do with it? :thinking  :joker
But the old 413 was still pulling with more pedal! Man who can't love these Mopar torque-monsters :dance

seriously thats all your going to get out of the trucks, highway gears 3:23-2:76 take away from hauling and won't give you a whole lot of improvement, 3:55-4.10 gears your not going to do highway speed unless your ok with hearing your engine turn RPM"S over 3000, for you'll hit 3000 rpm at 60 mph and highway speed is 75. These older motors don't make their full horsepower until 3500-4000 rpm's but unless your as old as me, then your use to driving alll this new stuff that has overdrive to keep the engine RPM's down below 3000 RPM. At the time of the engine builds and truck design their was no worry about gas prices, and farms and Ranches were very popular so they built them to work, any claims to above 15 mpg I would have to see to believe it, unless some one put a overdrive transmission in.

Thanks for the vote of confidence over there.

Consider that some parts of the Country are flat, and at sea level. Or maybe yours needs a tune-up.

if your able to get that mileage thats wonderful :Thumbsup its just I've grown up with at least one of the yrs 55-71 Trucks around with someone close whether it be ford, chevy, or Dodge and none of them got good gas mileage, just not what their designed to do, and the technology of that era wasn't concerned with gas miliage. I've lived in many states and regardless of terrain it just has never happened. Having said that, it could be possible if your driving habits are keeping the RPM's 1500-2500 range, which means you would be 45-55 tops on the highway, unless overdrive is installed. The gear ratio would have to be in the 2.95 area to even come close, and you'd have to have a minimum of a 318 cubic inch motor, and that would leave not room to haul. Even with 3:23's that would be a hard accomplishment. 3:55-5:36's your lookin at low end pulling power not good on the highway. Their are those who can drive 1500-2500 rpms and run 45-50 on the highway and not worry about being a danger to other drivers, that fine, usually what gives the increase mileage is the speedometer is off.

I have a 71 D 100 Shortbed Utiline with 225 /6, 3 speed column shift, 3.91 rear end with 235/75/15 tires the original bottom end with a rebuilt peanut head and rebuilt 1 bbl carb, I have changed it to HEI ignition...I live in West Virginia the truck does not lose speed on the hills and I average 23 mpg or slightly less after correction for tire size. The driving is mostly on 2 lane roads at about 55 mph.

Yeap, that sounds right, the key on the gas mileage is the 55 mph and its a slant 6 :Thumbsup

'68 D200 original 318/727auto with 4.10 gears. In western WA, at sea level, no matter how I drove, I got 7mpg. In central OR, ~2k above, sea level, all my driving was either idling around a farm or flat out on the highway, I got 11mpg. I've only put one tank through the mild 318/833overdrive, so I have no idea what I'll be getting with my new set up.
