Fan blade failure, never seen this happen before

Post by garyo »

Blade on a factory fan bent. Motor is tied down, plenty of clearance all around. I've never seen this, any ideas what would cause that?

Something from the road bounced up into it and bent it.

i dont know, could it be a harmonic balancer? ive lost a blade in my old 78 dodge 4x4 with a 440 in it. went right through the hood. but i was pullin a pretty steep grade and runnin a pretty high rap on the motor. as i recall it too was a clutch fan.

Clutch is new for whats that worth. It feels fine. This one has my puzzled. I told someone I think the truck has demons as I keep fighting the same problem areas over and over.

Gary--

As far as demons go, if I was a demon, a place called Arcanum would certainly be attractive.

Is the water pump shot, allowing movement?

You know, I thought of that, too. When I was little my Dad worked late nites some times and, after he came home, when the weather was cold, the cat would climb up in the fan shroud where it was warm. Mom learned real quick to bump on the hood with her fist a couple of times before she started the car the next morning. Now some 45 years later, Mom still has cats and I still bump on the hood when I get ready to leave her house in the winter.
