Kidney Stones and Computer Crashes

Well, I am finally back after an ordeal with both of the aforementioned. I went into the hospital on Monday, March 2nd to have a procedure done that would completely remove the 15mm stone that was in my left kidney, as the (non-evasive) Lithotripsy from last October did not work. This time, the doctor needed to make an incision in my back and then another in the kidney itself, insert a tube through my back and into the kidney where he would break up the stone and remove the pieces, sounds like fun right? I had the surgery on Monday, the 2nd, and was supposed to be able to go home the following Wednesday, but I just like hanging around in hospitals, so I decided to stay until Saturday, the 7th, (must be the food). Everything was going fine, until the actual day I was supposed to go home, I started getting really sick and could not hold anything down, so I knew I wasn't going home that day. My diet that day consisted of morphine, phenegan and jello. After several tests and becoming somewhat of a pincushion from being stuck so many times to give up small viles of my blood, the problem was finally found. The tube that was going into my kidney, for drainage reasons, was actually leaking a little urine back into my body, causing me to be sick and my white blood count to go up and run a slight fever. The tube had been capped off on Tuseday night in the anticipation that I would be going home the following morning, no one knew that the incision wasn't healed up enough yet, and so instead of draining into a collection bag, being capped off, it now was draining back into me, (not a good thing). Once the problem was identified, the tube was then re-connected to a collection bag and the two of us have become best buds ever since. So.... anyway, I got to go home on Saturday, I still have the tube and bag connected to me which will be removed Thursday morning. I think I am finally healing up because there is very little fluid in the bag now, and I am not having any pain at all, (shocking). Sometime last week my computer crashed, and I have spent the last couple of evenings working on reformatting and getting it all back up to speed, working great so far. Of course, this was the first place I came to once I got 'er up and running. It is good to be back and I hope everyones week went better than mine!!! Oh, at least I have no more stones in my left kidney anymore :Thumbsup !!!

That must of been an extreme case ..

Lucky ol' me has had them 3 times .

Once I passed it / them ,etc.

Once they went up the you know what to get it , bust it up and drag the pieces out ..

Once we did the sonic but up thing ...

All three options were horrible

Thanks guys. Yes I am better, and should be relieved of this tube and bag thing tomorrow morning. That stone was huge, I saw the peices of it in a cup, and they were going to analyze it to see what it was made of. I have 2 smaller "clusters" in my right kidney also, but the doctor seems to think that lithotripsy will take care of these because they are not as dense as that big one was. I will have to wait a while and make sure that I am completely healed up before I do that though. Once the procedure is done, hopefully I will be stone free.

I feel your pain brother. 15mm is bigger then any stone I've had to pass or get blasted. I read a statistic somewhere, sometime, and it was pretty amazing the amount of people who go into hospitals for basic surgeries and end up with something far worse due to the hospital's unsanitary conditions, negligence, or their I don't care attitude. I've had Lythotripsy five times ( my biggest was 12mm ) and passed probably seven or eight stones. I'm only 47 and seem to get a stone every six months now. Like they say it is the closest a man can get to knowing what labor is like. Hope everything ends up alright and you do not get anymore stones they are a real *#%^$. :pale

Thank you. The tube was removed on Thursday morning and all seems to be healing up really well now. Thankfully I have not had any pain since I came home last Saturday. :Thumbsup

Both those issues have affected me lately also.

My home desktop machine crashed and I lost five years of emails and all my outlook contacts, then I bought a new machine. And the fellow who was going to help take down some trees so I can build a shop cancelled due to kidney stones...

anyhow, I feel your pain.
