Slant Six trucks?

Post by 2bluesweptlines »

Just curious how many of you have a slant six under the hood. I love the /6 and will likely get another /6 truck someday.

My 65 has the Slant 6 and I had thoughts of changing it out for a V8 but it has been such a reliable and nice driving engine that I am sticking with it. I found a NOS Carter\Chrysler single barrel carb to replace the odd-ball the previous owner had on it (which would never adjust or idle right) and the engine runs great.

So no complaints from me... sticking with the Slant 6! :Thumbsup

My crewcab was an original slant six truck, but it had a 383 when i got it and now has a 440..
i have had plentyof stock slant sixesthat are reliable but i like the power of the big block(no matter what it costs in fuel$$ they arent daily drivers anyway)

My 65 Utiline SWB has a /6 225, had a 198 which lasted FOREVER! I'm still trying to tell myself when I rebuild the truck to go with the 383 I have or the Poly 318... But I have "THREE" running /6 engines in my shop right now, because my original plan was the build up a /6 to be "different".

i'm on a hunt as we speak. if i can come up with a complete /6 with an 833 overdrive trans hooked to it, my truck will lose the magnum 5.2 in a beat if i can find a complete set up, because i need everything involved in a 6 from brackets to linkage, ect.ect.

Got the 225 on it, block date matches the truck. Last owner rounded up the "super six" parts, but left it to me to put it together. Runs great, not afst, but pulls great.

Personally, my 68 slant 6 with a government issue "cherry bomb" sounds better than my 78 318. I love that throaty growl that the 6 makes at mid-high rpm. A slant with an 883 would give about the best possible mileage for a swepty. Anybody know what a setup like that gets?

You know I'm running one. Still putting the sheetmetal on the front end together--going 4-eyed on the front of my '71. Mine runs courtesy of Sweet Lady Propane.

my 62 Town Wagon has the /6 motor, with the super six manifolds and a holley 2300 series, 350 cfm two barrell carb. It is set up with the updated alternator (electronic voltage regulator), and later model dual circuit brakes.

Behind the /6 is a NP420 transmission, and a 3.55 suregrip flanged axle rear end. Not the most powerful truck towing a trailer at 75 mph, but certainly perfectly adequate for all but super highway use.

In the last five years of regular use, there have been no significant failures, and starts easily in all weather.

I actually like as well as the 318 in the 68 utiline, and doesn't spin tires quite as easily.

In the last year, there have been steady chassis upgrades, new spring bushings all the way around, with new rear shackles. Last weekend was new front wheel bearings, including tapping new races in, rear wheel bearings are going in this weekend, plus new drums and brake shoes all the way around. The new drums and brakes went on last July. And if I get the rear wheel bearings in by Saturday morning, I might splurge on a set of new lt225/75R16D rib tires for the front, if the existing front tires don't balance out the way I would like them to. I suspect the old spring bushings allowed so much slop, the tires went out of balance.

I read it...is it done yet? Haha. I like you plans for the slant six build. I am about 2/3 done with my slant six build. If you are interested, follow the build under the Engine section and look for the the Slant Six Build thread. I can give you the details of the build if you want for reference for your build.
I just bought some headers from Clifford. Have you bought anything from Clifford yet?
Do you know what cam, carb, intake, exhaust, CR, etc. you will be running?
Keep us posted on the build...
