finally on the road again

Post by ozzie »

well I got the truck running last week after the engine and tranny swap. engine fired right up with 80 lbs. oil pressure. brought a huge grin to my face, then I went to take it for a spin around the block. :banghead thats when the grin was replaced by a grimace, along with an AW :censored . the tranny I bought for someone in Denver was toast :shame . growling the minute I started to move. took it to the trans shop to have it gone thru. [ didn't want to try buying another used one, didn't want to get burned twice] got it back today $975.00 poorer. well at least I have an all new drive train for about $1700.00. can't buy a 4X4 truck for that nowadays. I have the grin back on my face again  , just not as wide. Ozzie.

thanks, Robin. truck is running fine, just need a little fine tuning. I have to reset the timing. just timed by ear to get it running, and adjust the carb. also have a little antifreeze leak at the thermostat housing to take care of. this project went pretty well, if it wasn't for the trans being bad it would have gone super. one other thought, I have the same exhaust as before the swap, but now it seems very loud to me. could it be that there was so little compression in the old engine I wasn't getting the real descibles out of the exhaust. don't know if that makes any sense. I am thinking of getting some mellower sounding mufflers. the ones I have on now are Thrush. anyone have any suggestions on another type. thanks, Ozzie.

i had the same problem after buying a set of mufflers called purple hornies. i should have realized with a name like that, thet they would be loud, but the price was unreal. $20 canadian then. well now i had a problem. i ended up buying another set of puple hornies, and mounting them directly behind the others. worked great, the sound was awesome, and didn't deafen you, or annoy the cops.
they were just glasspacks. alot like a thrush.
