Hey Folks,
Been working on rock walls around my house this summer. Well I needed more so off to the query I went. I have never loaded big rocks before so had no idea how much a decent load may weight. It was going to be $25 a ton. I guessed I maybe had 3/4 ton? To much for my little 1/2 ton D100.
Went over the scales and the lady working it said $46. Wait a minute. How did we just go from $25 to $46?
Well it turns out I had put 3460 POUNDS of rocks in the bed.
Made it home okay and finished the rock wall. This old truck never fails me even when I do stupid things to it

Re: Overloaded!
Good way to bend an axle or the frame.

Re: Overloaded!
These trucks will out work most, not bad for a 3600lb axle and 2200lb springs. Only thing I'd be a little hesitant of, is the brakes. ![Salut :salut](./images/smilies/icon_salut.gif)

Re: Overloaded!
I have two with bent frames at the back of the cab due to overloading, but you're right about the brakes. My old '69 dump flatbed hauled an awful lot of rock, sand, dirt, and logs. That frame is shot.

Re: Overloaded!
In 1983 I stacked 5000# of beeswax blocks directly behind the cab of my 70 W200 and hauled it 160 miles to the buyer. Didn't bend the frame but was real bouncy on the bumps. Wouldn't do it again!
In 1986 I stacked 6000# of concrete blocks blocks directly behind the cab on my 62 W300 and hauled them across town. Was no problem for the truck but the 7.50 x 20 dually tires were squished out at 50 psi.

Re: Overloaded!
Realize that when I haul big loads, it's on dirt going over drainage dips. Big twist loads are involved with a lot of the load shifting entirely to one side and then slamming back the other way. Hence my earlier interest in the factory channel reinforcement. If anybody knows the weldng schedule for those, please let me know.PwrWgnDrvr wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2019 10:11 amIn 1983 I stacked 5000# of beeswax blocks directly behind the cab of my 70 W200 and hauled it 160 miles to the buyer. Re: Overloaded!
That ride height doesn’t look too bad with the load.
