Road Trip Lompoc, CA to Astoria, OR
In two weeks I’ll be taking a road trip with the truck to Astoria Oregon from Lompoc California about 1000 miles one way. The last time I took this trip was in my Barracuda so I have a good idea about old Mopars on the road. Aside from the typical spare parts like ballast resistor and belts what tools and parts should I look at taking?
This is a somewhat low mile 1970 D-200/4-speed that I will have just converted to disc up front (to happen this week).
Thanks,
Alan

Take a bottle of brake fluid and a couple extra quarts of motor oil.MrMopar wrote: Aside from the typical spare parts like ballast resistor and belts what tools and parts should I look at taking?

If ya feel like taking the 99 route as apposed to the I-5, stop on off in Modesto, you can look over the parts truck I have in the back yard, if you need anything, we can rip'm apart. I'vew got a 63 100 I've been stealing from, got a few more parts to steal off, but after that I'll probably post it in the for sale section for anyone who wants what's left???

I'm always up for a "yard" visit and it would only be a 20 mile detour but would add about and hour as we are taking the 101/680/80/505/5, having to crossover at 46/41 then up to 165 is where the time is lost.mousecat wrote:If ya feel like taking the 99 route as apposed to the I-5, stop on off in Modesto, you can look over the parts truck I have in the back yard, if you need anything, we can rip'm apart. Also I'm not sure how much from a 63 carries over to a 70 not that I need much anyways mostly small stuff like marker lights and lenses.
I'll have a different passenger each direction, on the way north I'll have my Nephew, 16 and not into cars at all. The return trip I'll have my Niece, 14 and lovin' my old iron she spent many weekends one summer helping me put my Barracuda together. Not sure either of them will want to take extra time but I'll think about it.

My very first car at 16 was a 69 Barracuda. Found it in a wrecking yard for 200 bucks!!!
Boring little slant 6 in it, but loved the body!!! Back glass was more expencive then the car! But, life happened, and I never really got to drive it!
I understand about the extra time, I've made a few trips north myself, and adding any additional time is something you never want to do when you're already spending that much time in the seat.
Hope the trip goes well, and the option is open to you if ya feel up to it.

Dont be on 101/680/80 anywhere near commute times or u will lose HOURS! The entire route between Gilroy and Vacaville sucks all to hell.

Although I'm from SoCal I know the area all too well. The plan is lunch in that zone so we should be good.PwrWgnDrvr wrote:Dont be on 101/680/80 anywhere near commute times or u will lose HOURS! The entire route between Gilroy and Vacaville sucks all to hell.
Other than the construction in Salinas and Prunedale I don't foresee any real issues with traffic. I was just through there twice in the last few weeks. As for north of there into Yreka it was this time last year I was last through there. Both days we'll have time to kill so I might be looking for some diversions, not wanting to drive 16 hours in one day I will be splitting it in two.
North on June 15/16
South on June 22/23

I've only gone as far north as Stockton in the last year, but there is contruction on 99 and I-5 between Manteca and Stockton, no major slow downs, just ugly!
Your North trip I'll be on the camp grounds with the family, but your South trip... the 21st is my big 4 0, and it looks like my wife is planning some kind of get together, with a bunch of people, I probably don't even like????
But should be around in that time frame.
Have a safe trip.
