Shipping cost

Just wondering if anybody knows what shipping options there are for things like doors. I want to buy a door from a fellow on the forum but he said it's going to cost $400 to $500 to ship from CO to PA . Is there a cheaper way? That's robbery for a company to charge that much for shipping! Thanks a lot , Randy

Remove the window frame, hinges and glass. Ive not measured it, but it will likely be less than max size for fedex ground. If under 70#, will be around a buck/#. U can estimate it on their website, and if oversize, get the cost for that also. All u need is dimensions and weight.

Somebody once mentioned that Grainger has a shipping service. At the time I looked it up but now I can't find any info on it. They said it was cheaper than anybody else.

It is Fastenal, not Grainger. I just saw Patrick's post.

I remember the horror stories of greyhound shipping. Didnt one guy buy a NOS front fender and then they shipped it greyhound and then the piece fell out of the greyhound and then the bus ran it over?

Countless horror stories have been posted on the forums re lamehound.

They lost some valuable parts I bought. They give you a "shipping" number
it doesn't mean sh*t. The customer service people I had to seal with all were
sub-sub par. If they were the ONLY way I had to ship something somewhere, I'd
carry it to its destination myself.

I know of 2 junkyards in Eastern PA that might have the body parts. Can't answer for the rust...

From my experience in shipping wih FedEx, don't pay them for insurance unless you have a minimum of 2 in. of solid packaging all the way around. Then it's still shaky. I've dealt with alot of damage claims for customers and I've heard it all... "Insufficient packaging"- It was in crate. "We could not inspect the item because the recipient discarded it"- "Really? Because it was sent back to me when a forklift hit it, I'm looking at it right now." the list goes on. But yes, with the window frame removed and the glass out it will be below the max size for sure. Chances are it will get a few dings if they just put it in a box though. The weight won't really matter, for that size they're gonna jack it up anyway for "dimensional weight".

Try your local Fastenal dealer...They'll ship your parts through their supply line. Haven't done it yet myself, but I've heard this from several people recently.

i use to send furniture around the country that i made.its been years though...i called a trucking company at the airport,took it to them and picked it up there.i made a 6ft tall cabinet one time and it cost me 50 from texas to california....put it on a pallet and secure it........ups and fedex wanted 4oo even back then....freight trucking is the best way

They were h*ll-bent on offering the crappiest support possible.

I recently bought a radiator core support panel from California, had it shipped to Florida Via Greyhound. No complaints. 90.00 give or take for a 50# piece of sheet metal. I got good service.

Hadn't heard the complaints about greyhound. I guess that I would think twice about trusting them with sheet metal, but I might try them out for hard parts that aren't fragile.

Lost parts are lost parts though. Sorry to hear about that.

I've used Greyhound on three occasions - once for a BedRug bedliner that I had rolled up in two sections (they unzip); another for a Nissan four-cyl head assembly (shipped in a wooden box I built for it), and a pair of wheels that I wrapped in plastic shrink-wrap. All took roughly four days each, and shipped just fine. Only bad thing is the bus station is in a truly *#%^@ part of the city. I would in NO way use them for sheet metal, glass or fiberglass parts, however.
