Nice looking Scout! Most of the ones here are rusted beyond repair.

So are most of them anywhere except perhaps the West Coast and Southwest.shagrat wrote:Nice looking Scout! Most of the ones here are rusted beyond repair.
The funny thing is that I knew I had seen an AMC Pacer at a salvage yard recently. I thought it was strange to see and it stuck in my mind otherwise I'd be searching all over for one. I called the place up where I thought it was and now they are pulling the suspension for me for $150.soopernaut wrote:I plan on doing this(AMC Pacer) for the suspension. It bolts right in. Now I just need to find one.

What's all this noise about the Pacer suspension?

I don't know exactly what you mean, but according to that link I posted, it will fit my frame without modifications.Myascape wrote:What's all this noise about the Pacer suspension?

Apparently my schedule has left my ability to read an entire post for content lacking...
I went back and read about the pacer IFS. I'm a little slow lately.

Bill,
That Pacer rear axle looks a little primitive.

Re: Looks like I'm getting an International
I have a friend who put a Pacer IFS in the front of his 48 Studebaker pickup.
He ended up taking it back out because he was having a hard time finding parts for it, ball joints, steering and brake parts were all difficult to find.
He went with a Mustang II kit instead.

It's not my picture so I have no idea what that is out of.digdoug wrote:Bill,

I've already looked and every part is available or listed as being available. A few years back there might have been some stuff that was difficult to find but now it seems there are more parts. I might stock up on parts after I get the truck together.EarlKann wrote:I have a friend who put a Pacer IFS in the front of his 48 Studebaker pickup.

I've seen sources for ball joints that weren't available before, the steering rack is available rebuilt plus I've been looking at some rack swaps, there are 3 companies that make aftermarket brake kits for AMCs, including Scarebird and Wilwood. There were 3 different rotors used on the Pacer depending on the year. The spindles are of a 2 piece design and bolt on. According to the AMC forums, all AMC car brakes(exc. Eagle) are interchangeable from the 40s to the 80s if you use the correct spindle. The 79-83 rotors are cheap and easy to find.
Many of those who've used it and the MII say that it is superior, plus the cost is much lower. It is often compared to a Volare but without torsion bars.

As long as you know what you're getting into. Might want to call on those "listed as being available" just to make sure.

Is the late model Crown Vic unit to wide for a scout? It's a great setup.

Cool, is that near you? I know where 3 others are sitting but if I can't find something I'll keep that in mind.Campinfool wrote:Parts? Lots of rust but could be some trim and small stuff..
The salvage yard finally got the Pacer IFS pulled but I can't get out there until next week.

Yes, these are about a 15-20 mile round trip from me. I'm sometimes able to get good deals from this place but lately there prices have been higher.soopernaut wrote:Cool, is that near you? Oh, hell, dig that Lincoln Continental coupe! That looks like it could be driven right out of there! I love old Lincolns! I had a '62 ragtop about 13 years ago, what a beautiful-driving car it was!

Crazy what people will just throw away for srap!!!! When I lived in Talladega, I met this guy from a local shop that had a first gen Scout that was right hand drive. He said it was from Australia. Now I wonder what ever happened to it, if it is still out there running around, that was about 12 years ago.

It was probably a Postal Service Scout. I doubt it was shipped here from Australia.DocsTruck wrote:When I lived in Talladega, I met this guy from a local shop that had a first gen Scout that was right hand drive. He said it was from Australia.
I found a nice tailgate and a truck top Today. I also got the Pacer IFS but I'm not sure if it is going to work. Perhaps the Scout 80s had a narrower frame than the 800s. I'll have to do some more research. The Pacer appears to have a frame that gets narrower right where the coil springs are. Maybe it'll end up with a Mustang II IFS in it.
