1963 W200 Power Wagon (Video added)
Hello,
I was wondering what everyone thinks of this truck? It is a 6cyl, standard shift. I am told it has under 40,000 original miles. Everything works and it could be driven daily. Has no frame rot only surface rust, needs work to the bottom of both doors, fenders and a small spot on the rockers. Floors are good, bed needs new boards has plywood in it now. The seller wants $4800 and is firm at that number. I have negotiated him down to that price. Knowing what major rust repair cost and knowing it does not need any full panel replacement it seems like an ok price. Could buy one for thousands less but spend more than that on major rust repair. See attached picture. Thanks !!!!!!!!!

For where you are, located in Rust Hell, the price seems quite in-line.

I wouldn't pay that much up here in Canada. If you have a difficult time finding trucks in that condition in your area, maybe that's a good price. Sorry, not much of a help for you, but it is definitely a nice looking truck!

Hard to tell from only one picture. Here in SoCal, that'd be on the high side price wise, especially since we don't have as much rust problems.
Here's a solid Ca truck for comparison. Notice it only has the one bid, and I don't expect it to get too much higher.

Re: 1963 W200 Power Wagon
I saw that truck on Ebay when looking for similar trucks. It obviously has much better paint but and does not need the metal work the one I am looking at needs. Although I consider it acceptable/minor compared to most East Coast trucks of this age. I honestly think it may be $800 over priced but then again try to find another that is within 8 hours of me in this condition. It would cost me $$ to have one shipped and I would not be able to look at it before buying it.

I'd drive it and check it out for suspension problems and such. If everything's okay I'd go ahead and get it. Price would be about the same in the long run since you don't have as much expense with the little nickle and dime stuff.

The truck is actually located in upstate NY and I didnt really notice the catus until now.

If its close to where I am [Lockport, NY], I'd
be happy to take a look at it for you. I'm
in the Buffalo area. Looks like a decent
rig from the pics but sometimes a good
go-through in person will reveal some
"issues". If its real solid, very minimal
rust [as described] and runs good, I'd
say that price of $4800, although a bit
high in my opinion, is tolerable.

Hey John,
Thanks for the offer to take a look at it. It is in Waterport which looks like it is an hour away from you. I am hoping to be traveling for work on Thursday and will only be a few hours away and plan seeing it on Friday morning. But if that changes and you happen to be in that area for something maybe you could take a look at it.
Thanks Dean!

Re: 1963 W200 Power Wagon
Hey Dean, it sounds a little high but i don't see it in person. As long as you know where to look for as far as rust trouble spots, then you are good. Floors, cowl, rockers, rear cab mounts, etc.
Its only worth what you want to pay, so if its got nice/unhacked wiring and has a clean engine bay as well as all stock parts without crazy mods then it is probably a good truck. Remember that these trucks aren't huge investments, so unless it gets a high dollar paint job, it won't be worth much more than the current price even if you throw a ton of money in. It is a 63 W so that is pretty cool in itself.
Good Luck!!

Wally426ci,
Thanks for the feedback. My plans if I buy it are to practice my mig welding skills which I have not used in some time. Teach my son some welding along the way and just drive the thing a day or two a week. Just work on it as needed and see how things go. It does have some cab/fender mount rot on one side. Been working on old cars for longer than I like to admit at times. So I have learned the hard way to look things over well. But always good to remind yourself what to look for. I attached a link to a video of the truck if your interested. Although I couldn't replace a full qtr panel for example. I can fix the rot on this truck myself.
Thanks Dean.

Gotta say, you could do a lot worse for the $$$. See if you can deal it some, but even for the asking price, I don't think you'd be hurt on it. Especially for an East Coast truck!

I'm pretty sure I've seen that truck somewhere else.
I would take a lot to make it perfect but you might have a difficult time finding a better one for less in your area.

That video helped a good deal. The rocker
panels are starting to let loose pretty good.
That right front cab mount is in peril also,
judging by the amount of metal that has
rusted away from the brackets and around
the rocker panel body plug hole.

left floorboard is looking pretty shaky too.
You'll have four door corners to repair and
it looks like the front fender bottoms are
in need of attention too. The box steps both
appear to be in need of replacement. The
cowl is looking a bit rusty where the fenders
bolt on..... there might be more than meets
the eye with the cowl.

has low miles, who knows what you might find
when you drive it down the road. I see a hydraulic
pump on it and a dash pull lever

This truck could have been pushing a snow plow.
In my opinion, you could likely find a nicer truck
from a nicer climate and still wind up paying the
same money even with transportation factored in.

Well at this point I have decided to pass on this one. I think in the end I would have drove 8 hours each way to end up not being happy with what I saw in person. And the guy seemed really firm on the price at least at this point. Plus I have a 66 Ply Belv that I having been playing around with. So if I dont find a truck soon I will just work on putting the Belv on the road. Thanks again for everyones feedback.
