:thinking THAT is one of the things I've considered, also.
Where I am I'd want some way to keep rain and snow out when the fan wasn't blowing to keep the louvers clean. I THINK...............

That was my thought the very first time I seen the louvers. They never should have put them on there without being functional. I mean, it's a truck. And if I'm not mistaken, it's the only non-functional thing on the whole vehicle. :thinking

I'd be careful making them functional. I had the idea of opening them up once and my
dad (with 50 + years of body shop/racing experience) looked at them and said he thought they were there in the first place to strengthen the hood, he though if they were opened up
the hood would bend (eventually) when pulling down to close it. I never did it.

Sounds reasonable, but there are hoods without them that don't bend in that area.

I have always thought they should have been functional, I personally hate fake stuff on any vehicle, scoops and all, but I also learned to love the louvers as they are. I think it would be cool to make them functional and then connect an air tube from the louvers to the air cleaner, kinda like a cowl induction!!!

I take back what I said earlier. I noticed in the junkyard on hoods without the vents that when the hood was forced shut it bent the hood in that area. I never noticed this before; this is apparently a problem when hinges go bad or they aren't lubricated. I noticed nothing wrong with the hoods with the vents. Not only that, but the vents are right above the hinges. I believe the original idea was to strengthen that area as you said. Not only that, but they look cool. I like this idea, and now I know of NOTHING nonfunctional on the truck. :clap

I know you are talking about the louvers already in the hood but here are some pics of nonfunctioning louvers which look great.
