It is possible that all 69-71 W100s used a 489 case rear axle but I haven't seen enough to confirm this. Truck engines didn't have serial numbers/VINs stamped on them until the 80s or 90s. On a web-site that had ID info on Dodge rear axles, the 489 sounds like it is correct for my year. That said, ...

Thanks for all the input (and compliments :)) The diff is a 489. Does have Sure-Grip rear (open Dana 44 in front), and there is a tag screwed into the side of the pumpkin. I just can't read it.
