Re: 2012 Power Tour long haul?

Just a reminder, if anyone is coming out to any of the stops, look me up. The truck's about ready, just have to figure out which o-ring is leaking in the a/c this weekend, then hit the road next Friday.

Re: FUEL TANK QUESTIONS

Just plumbed my tank today. It's a '74 New Yorker tank, 26 gallons, with the filler just off center in the rear and the sender/outlet on the right side. I built my frame from 3/4 x 1 1/2 x 1/8 wall tubing and used the factory straps to hold it up. The front of the frame bolts to the cross-member bet...

Re: 1970 Dodge Adventurer Sport

My Sport is blue, and my emblems match those pictured exactly. I've got 3-bolt chrome mirrors, padded panels on the door bottoms that match the padded tops and have pockets, and a different seat than that shown on the e-bay piece (with the dealer installed clear vinyl cover still hog-ringed on it). ...

Re: 2 wires on ballast resistor

To keep the look stock, just gut the ballast resistor an put a piece of 10 gauge wire in the back of there.

Re: brake lights are in my dash?

Could also be a problem in the turn signal switch. If you're not getting power to the brake light wires at the rear, it's definitely in the t/s switch, if you do have power back there, it's a ground issue as mentioned above.

Re: trailer winch question

I try to run 50' on the winch so I can double-line past the end of the ramps, plus keep another length with an eye on one end and a hook on the other. Keep that coiled up for when you get those long pulls; it's kept the trailer and truck on solid ground on more than a couple of occasions.

Re: Electronic Distributor ?

I went with a Pertronix, since the '71 already had the electronic voltage regulator. Since it needs full voltage to the distributor, I gutted a ballast resistor and put a 12 gauge wire in the back of it, so with the hood open and air cleaner on it looks stock.

Re: Rear underbed gas tank conversion

I came upon a mid-70's C-body tank in great condition that should be hung under the rear soon. I'm wondering what you guys do about the hole from the neck in the cab. I vaguely remember somebody having an early lifestyle truck that had a rubber plug where the neck should have been, since the truck h...

Re: Bed cover- hard shell or soft

I made a flat hardshell cover out of all aluminum. Started by building a frame out of 1" square stock to sit inside the bed, with 3 crossmembers. Cut 6 pieces of 1" angle and riveted them on the inside of the bed to support the frame. Set the frame on the supports and used 4 2" pieces of angle rivet...

Tie rod question

This may seem like an odd question, but should the tie rod be straight? I pulled the front knuckles, brakes, steering cylinder and control valve for rebuild today, and noticed that there's a bend in the tie rod near the assist cylinder mount. I don't have anything to compare to, so I'll throw it out...

Re: Replacing side trim with pinstripe?

It's B5 blue with good chrome bumpers and aluminum wheels. Tried to upload a pic but can't get it small enough right now. I'd be interested in seeing some basic, "factory appearing" pinstriping if anyone has pics.

Replacing side trim with pinstripe?

When I bought my truck ('71 Adventurer Sport) it had been repainted, and since they didn't like the looks of the side trim, they ground off all of the rivets for the trim clips. I put the trim back on with 3M trim tape, and it's held good for 2 years, but I'm not happy with the way it looks, and I'm...

Re: Thanks Moporridge!

I had one on a 92 Dakota 3.9L, so that's what I used. I don't haul anything because of classic insurance, so the lighter duty didn't bother me.

Re: Thanks Moporridge!

If you're going automatic, go with an overdrive A500 or A518. I did the swap last winter and it's been great.

2012 Power Tour long haul?

I'm thinking of running the long haul on the 2012 Hot Rod Power Tour in the '71 Adventurer Sport. I'm 2 hours north of Detroit and the buddy that I used to buy the truck by remote control is in DFW. I put in an A500 overdrive 4-speed last winter, and I'm thinking of yanking the motor this winter for...

Power Steering Cylinder

Last night I was tightening up a loose line on my p/s cylinder, when I noticed that the base end is WAY loose. It looks like a shcock absorber without the bushings. What should I have in there? are there bushings available, or am I off on another scavenger hunt?
