Re: battery not holding charge...
Sounds good but who's the 60-66 GMC guy? By the way I spoke to a few people and deduced that even if the Ranger battery in question was not sufficient in size (amps?) it shouldn't have just died after driving around an hour or so. The charging system is not working, must be a short somewhere not all...

Re: battery not holding charge...
Thats cool, I'll always accept free advice! Thanks for the input, I made new heavy duty cables when I bought the battery over the summer. I Try to keep connections clean but I DO need to do a thorough cleaning and should actually probably just fully re-wire at some point because someone did a LOT of...

Re: battery not holding charge...
Thanks for the replies guys... Yesterday I replaced the voltage regulator and Alternator. Battery was too dead to let the alternator do it's job. Took battery to local vendor who put it on a 2 hr charge and in the meantime I borrowed a smaller battery out of a ford ranger. Big mistake! It worked for...

battery not holding charge...
1963 D200, 318... Last night I noticed headlights looking really dim, didn't think much of it but this afternoon battery died after trying to start her. Jump started OK, turned off and re-started OK. Let it idle for 20 min and even drove around a bit, then, stalled. Tried to start again and NOTHING....

Re: uh oh, a strange sound...
Well, the noise has ceased before I got time to really do anything. The gasket could definitely use replacing, looks like it hasn't been touched in years, the plugs were all tight. Maybe it (the sound) is weather/temp related, I'll have to pay attention next time I hear it...Thanks for the feedback ...

Re: Old School
What about one of those dashboard prism things? My lady's uncle has a few 1948 Chevy Coupe's and in one of em he's got this little dashboard mounted prism (don't know if prism is the right word but I can't think of another way to describe it) that allows you to see the traffic light without having t...

uh oh, a strange sound...
So, I guess the honeymoon is over  ...now I'm hearing a sort of popping/whiffing sound when I accelerate. The sound just started and is intermittent, and seems to be only during acceleration, weather in gear or just revving in neutral. Sounds like compressed air escaping from somewhere in the e...

Re: shifting trouble
When I go to look for the disk, what exactly am I looking for as far as signs that the clutch is shot? If it turns to be, how big of a job is that? It's shifting much better now but I just want to get an idea of what I'm in for if the clutch goes...Thanks for the pics and info

Re: shifting trouble
Yeah! I turned my adjustment nut probably 1 1/2 full turns toward the front of the truck and found a sweet spot where she will now engage with minimal resistance. I guess maybe those nuts can work their way loose over time and throw off the adjustment? Anyways, mine is almost all the way forward (th...

Re: shifting trouble
Funny, I always thought those 2 master cylinders were both for the brake system (mine has 2 side by side on the drivers side)...Now I see the slave unit. I'll check out all the linkage there, I assume there is an adjustment there. Also, do both master cyl's use the same type of fluid? Thanks for all...

Re: shifting trouble
So, could anyone post a pic of the clutch master cylinder, as well as the slave unit or at least describe where they are? There is definitely some play in the linkage. I've noticed that the clutch is much "softer", meaning it's much easier to push to the floor. When the gears are grinding, it is a v...

shifting trouble
My 62 D200 is having a hard time shifting into 1st and Reverse. It's a 3 speed on the column with a 318. Sometimes it goes right in, other times it just really doesn't want to engage and there's lots of grinding :pale . No problems going into 2nd or 3rd. What's the first thing to look into, clutch a...

rack for 62 D200
I'm thinking about fabricating a lumber/steel rack for my 62 3/4 ton. I'd like to make it "period correct" if that even applies. Was there ever any factory option for a rack? If so, does anyone have any pic's? I suppose most of them were either custom or more of a generic square steel tube construct...

Below are links to my blog and flickr page. Thanks for the additional words of wisdom... Re: 62 D200-Fires but dies right away
So, would you agree that the cheapo inline filter that I installed just before the fuel pump will be sufficient? I never really thought of it (the glass filter) being a safety issue but now that you mention it, yeah, a small crack and I'd have a huge mess on my hands! I thought it was a neat old par...

Re: 62 D200-Fires but dies right away
SUCCESS!!!! Turns out it was the fuel pump... disconnected the line at the filter (the original glass/ceramic one) and turned it over a few times and there was no pressure or fuel coming out. The fuel pump that NAPA had was a bit different but had the same mounting holes and actuator arm so I gave i...
