Re: HELP - coolant overflow on 1969 318
CORRECTION: I just noticed in my initial post that I said there is water or sludge in the oil. There is actually NO water or sludge in the oil. Picked up a Stant 7 psi cap today and will see how that works. Regarding looking for movement of water in the radiator: Will there be movement if the thermo...

Re: HELP - coolant overflow on 1969 318
Many thanks to all for the replies. The radiator is actually new, but I wasn't very clear about that, so there's no way it's clogged. There is a fan shroud in place and this radiator sits in nearly the same place as the original. The five-gladed fan sits approximately three to four inches from the r...

Re: HELP - coolant overflow on 1969 318
Yeah, not bone dry, but I have to add a gallon of water plus a little more. I saw on another thread that the recommended psi rating for a cap is 7. The only caps I have seen for sale are in the 12 to 18 psi range. So, a lower psi cap would be better than higher? That goes against what I would think,...

Re: New starter makes "thunk" sound. Ideas?
I will check the grounds/connections. Also am having the transmission serviced soon and will have them inspect the flywheel/ring gear. Thanks for your input, Hewy.

HELP - coolant overflow on 1969 318
I recently replaced the original radiator with a newer radiator out of a 69 Polara 383 with AC. New rad has 13 psi cap and all new hoses. Did not change thermostat or water pump. There is no overflow tank, just a rubber line going from the cap down the side of the radiator and emptying on the ground...

Re: New starter makes "thunk" sound. Ideas?
The 3 to 5 times you try, does the starter just stop and you key it off and on again ? or continues to run with the sound ? Same with a new starter ? Possibly not the starter at all, but missing or badly worn flywheel teeth . It usually just stops, but will occasionally continue to run. Same with n...

Re: New starter makes "thunk" sound. Ideas?
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Not sure if it's direct drive as I don't know exactly what that means. I guess I'm not understanding how a new starter has the same issue as the one it replaced. Are these contacts in the body of the starter or the starter relay?

New starter makes "thunk" sound. Ideas?
My starter was beginning to occasionally make a "thunk" sound when trying to start the truck. This required me to try and start it 3, 4, 5 times. I installed a new starter and am still getting the occasional "thunk" when attempting to start the truck. It doesn't happen all the time, or even a lot. M...

Re: Door lock refurbishing? Anyone?
72 and up locks, and the locksets that are sold as fitting a 1969 D100 don't work because the they're shaped slightly differently than the original locks. They could probably be made to work by doing a little surgery to the door, but I'd rather not do that.

Door lock refurbishing? Anyone?
Does anyone know of somewhere I could send my 1969 D100's door locks to be "rebuilt"? I haven't been able to find anyone locally. Does anyone even do this or is it possible with the type of cylinders used on the older trucks? I had a key made for them, but I found out that the driver's side is broke...

A question about oil pressure guage wiring
I recently acquired a gauge cluster with an oil pressure gauge instead of a dummy light. My truck has an oil pressure sending unit for a light, not a gauge, so I know I have to replace my sending unit. My question is about how to wire the new gauge. There are two posts on the back of the OP gauge. W...

Re: Need help w removing AC unit from 69
Yes, it was indeed a bear to remove, but I did it. 3 nuts on the firewall and 3 different brackets inside. One of the brackets required removing the glove box, one was on the lower inside lip of the dash, and one was on the driver side of the ac box. Now to find a heater box to replace it with. Than...

Need help w removing AC unit from 69
I have a 69 D-100 Custom that has an original AC setup that I'd like to replace with a simple heater box. Does the dash absolutely have to be removed to get the AC unit out? I checked and was only able to see one bolt that attaches the unit to lower edge of the front of the dash. Is everything else ...

Re: Swap 74 radiator into a 69? Opinions?
So, you're saying it may not be as simple as throwing on a radiator and water pump for a 74? I should have known. It wouldn't be such a PITA if the truck weren't my daily driver. Looks like I'm off to seek out a reputable radiator guy here in Austin.

Swap 74 radiator into a 69? Opinions?
I need to replace the radiator on my 69 and was thinking of getting the Spectra Industries CU889 from AutoZone. This would require installing a water pump with an outlet on the other (passenger) side of the engine. Anyone here do this before? I don't have the cash to have my original radiator redone...

Toasted ANOTHER fuel gauge. Ideas?
Hello, all... I toasted yet ANOTHER fuel gauge a little while back. Got the new gauge hooked up (Thanks, Butch), but my temp gauge was not hooked up because it was broken (or so I thought). Gauge worked for all of 5 minutes before it went south and stayed there. Question: Did I screw it up by runnin...

Re: Pertronix Ignitor and ballast resistor - question
Thanks for the replies. I got the wiring figured out and got the truck started. Seems like a whole different machine. Only problem is it was pinging pretty good under mid to high load. I was in the process of setting the timing (my first attempt at this EVER) and now I am unable to get the truck to ...

Truck won't start after trying to set timing - Pertronix thr
Hello all, I am installing an Ignitor in the truck and am unsure of which side of the ballast resistor is the ignition side and which is the coil side. One side has a single red wire and the other side has both a red and an orange wire. Also, where do I splice the Ignitor wire in? All pertinent repl...
