BEWARE of '68 Hood Latches!!!

For some reason, they love to slip and let the hood fly up under speed...then bounce off your roof/windshield area.

I have (4) spare '68 hoods, ALL have (4) dents in them from bouncing off the roof!

The 1969 & '70-71 latches do work, from my observations/experience.

Re: front clip/rad support

Those were cosmetic changes, John. The electrical firewall connectors went from round to rectangular, also. Cosmetic in terms of the hood matching the cowl/firewall.

HOLLEY makes a 400 cfm 4V carb. Check out E-Bay for one. 500 cfm is too much carb.

Ain't NOTHING wrong with ANY NPG435, no matter what case construction may be. NPG 445 is even better, IMHO.

Re: Cab Interchangability

Thru 1973, the Medium and Heavy Duty trucks were hydraulic clutch...no problem there.

Cab, as John said, is a problem. 100 & 200 are the same. 300 is all by itself. 400 & up are the same, thru 1973 with the exception of the wiring harness. 1973 is the last year of the Sweptline as we know it.

The medium trucks are 2-wheel and use 600 & 700 gear ratios. I can get specific if you would like me to.

Re: tank sizes ?

Most '60's tanks are 16 gal. with sender mid-tank. 1970-71 are 25 gal.(Sender at tank end) except Cali trucks...they needed a gal. for emissions equipment...24 gal. cap. There are some 18 gal. AND 15 gal. tanks out there, also.

I believe those screws take a #4 Phillips driver. They are also available in Allen Head. Almost anything works better than Phillips when trying to remove them. I am sure that is why Torx took over in the auto industry.

Re: fuel guage and sender question

ALL mechanical connectors MUST be soldered after assembly. The electrical signal travels thru the outside of the wires' strands. I suppose you staked them with a knife edge crimper? FLAT jawed Linesman's pliers are the correct tool...greater surface area with a flat crimp. We all learn from others. ...

Yep, looks like a '59 to me!

Snatch a CARTER carb. #2681 for it. They work better than Strombergs. That # is correct for 1957-60. Slant 6's take different CARTERS, depending on automatic or stick shift transmission.

10 Check top radiator hose...does it go from cold to hot? If not...replace thermostat. 2) If T-stat is working...still running hot...remove plow blade/pump assy...if it now runs colder...install a fan shroud if it is missing. Also, cover the gap between the upper core support to top of radiator with...

Re: What series truck

1961 "R" series was a transition year from the older bodied truck to our style. Many parts in the "R" series have different part numbers from the "S" & later series. Technically, each year has a letter series, 1963=T, 1964=V, 1965=A, 1966=B, 1967=C, etc. The Parts Books calls them all "S" series fro...
