clutch master cylinder problem

I finally got the clutch relined and put it in with the trans and driveshaft and made a throttle linkage, and went to go start the truck up and move it for the first time in over six months and the clutch goes to the floor with no resistance. Here's the setting of the problem: earlier that day (yest...

Re: People Want my Truck!!!

Yeah, no kidding. I've had the same experiences before. I even had a manager at a new Dodge dealership offer to buy it. I like when people ask about buying it, but no one will pay for it what I have into it, plus it was my first truck, so it's not leaving. Gotta hand it to the Sweptlines for getting...

Re: homemade go kart

Haha, yep, we made a heat shield (out of a blue plastic 55 gallon drum...) to go in between us and the motor. The part we are closest to is the trans cover and it doesn't get terribly hot, but none-the-less, we will be wearing full leathers, gloves and helmet.

homemade go kart

A few buddies and me made this over the last semester and have just finished it up this past weekend. The motor is out of an '89 Kawasaki Ninja 500 (58HP!!!) with a 6 speed trans. We made the headers out of old fenchpost tubing and found the header wrap in a trash can. The frame is an old shifter ka...

Re: 3.91 to 3.23 swap

John, I found just thien ring and pinion set. I would prefer to to find the whole axle or center section, but those don't seem to be near as cheap as the gear sets themselves. How do I tell the difference/tell what case they all are? Is there a tag, certain number of diff cover bolts, etc? This ring...

Re: 3.91 to 3.23 swap

I took John's advice and looked yesterday for a 3.55 ring and pinion. I found a ring and pinion (3.55) out of a '73 Dodge. The guy said it was out of an 8 3/4 rear, but doesn't know what case (489, etc). Do any of you know if it might happen to fit my axle? jblev62, Check ebay, they shpw up pretty o...

Re: 3.91 to 3.23 swap

Joe,
What cam are you running? I guess you have milled the head or decked the block at leat .100"? Does your truck still have good acceleration/pick-up? Also, what rpm do you like to run at on the highway?

Re: 3.91 to 3.23 swap

Yes, I am torn between being able to cruise on the highway at a reasonable rpm (and get reasonable mileage), or being able to have fun between the stoplights. With my engine build, I can't have both, so I think I'll stick with the 3.91 now as I don't do much highway driving, and then once I'm out of...

Re: 3.91 to 3.23 swap

I agree with Rodger 100%. No reason to keep the cruising revs that high. Engine wear increases exponentially with rpms. My cruising rpm was 2800 with the 1:1 trans in third gear and 3.91 and 31" tires. 2800 rpm was (is) too high. I'm hoping for a much lower cruising rpm to be closer to the peak torq...

Re: 3.91 to 3.23 swap

Yep, I agree with all of you, and that's exactly what I was afraid of. I figured the 3.23s would be too high for off the line and around town. Guess I'll just have to hold out for the A 833 OD and keep the 3.91s. The 833 OD's first three gears are very similar (if not the same) to the ones in the A7...

3.91 to 3.23 swap

As some of you know, I just got done rebuilding the slant six in my '64 D100 and with my (hopefully) newfound power, I'd like to be able to go highway speeds. I have an A745 three speed in the truck with 3.91s and 31" tires. I had thought about the A833 OD swap, but I think that will have to be an a...

Re: It's in and runs, finally!

Robin, I used 1.70" intake, 1.44" exhaust valves. They don't seem all that much bigger that the stock valves, but when you look at the formula for area (3.1415 x radius^2), it makes a difference. Also, they are backcut, which improves flow and already have a 3 angle job done on them. I bought them o...

Re: Engine tranny combos

Slant sixes are pretty common in junkyards, as well as ebay and craigslist. I've bought two running slant sixes each for less than $100 through ebay and craigslist. Like 63d100sixer said, be sure and check out slantsix.org. There is an "Articles" section there and in it there's an article talking ab...

Re: It's in and runs, finally!

Ok, here's the price breakdown. I'm sure I didn't get all the prices exactly right (I bought osme of these 6 months ago and lost the papers), so I did my best to recall what they were. All this is excluding the original price of the motor. block machine work: 240 rings: 43 rod bearings: 44 mains: 51...

Re: It's in and runs, finally!

Yep Robin, you're right. I have another head waiting to be cleaned up just for that purpose that has not been milled yet. I'll probably just build a whole new head seeing as how new valves and springs aren't that much. I did all the porting on the one on the truck now myself. It was nice becuase all...

Re: It's in and runs, finally!

Slick, It's in and staying in for good...or until next summer when I put a turbo on it! Then I'll have to change out the head and maybe the pistons, but I'll keep the slant in there. Mopardwh, I haven't thought about suspension upgrades yet. Anything in particular you recommend? -I'm open to ideas (...
