Re: My PTO conundrum, now (hopefully) with pics.
I have one that is built to be reversible, but yes, I think you can flip one if the seals are good enough. Some have the shaft dead center and it wouldn't matter at all. I think the Heil may need seals to reverse it's position.

if you leave it a swepty, I have a winch so large I cannot pick it up... I don't have anything that big to put it on.

You fly me down there, and I'll drive it home for you. I got goggles. :)
Why not leave a swepty body on it? Just put a swepty crew cab on.

Re: My PTO conundrum, now (hopefully) with pics.
Can't run off all gears. What I'm saying is the PTO gear must mesh with a certain gear in the transmission; It has to be a gear that will rotate under power in neutral, or while any other gear is engaged. The gear in the PTO only has two positions, engage and disengage... and where the gear sits in ...

Re: My PTO conundrum, now (hopefully) with pics.
I'm pretty gosh darn sure the PTO on my transfer is 6 bolt. I want to put one on the trans so as I can run a second winch.
I'm hearing conflicting info now. some people say the PTO runs off third, now I'm hearing first/reverse from another source. Very hard to find any definitive info.

Re: Cummins Conversions
It isn't exactly a swepty, but I had a chance at one of the swingfender Dodge heavy trucks (1964) with a Cummins L10 installed. I missed it by $100. It's probably within 50 miles of New Plymouth, Id. where it was auctioned off. There was also a D500 with a 4 speed Brownie installed, kind of cool.

NP420 + PTO?
I've been fighting with installing a PTO on my NP420, and can't get any definitive answers. The books say that the PTO drive gears on a 420 are helical, which doesn't really jive with the age of the trans. I've heard people say that they've installed a PTO and had it lock their gear box up... I've p...

My PTO conundrum, now (hopefully) with pics.
I tried posting this topic once, but lost all my text when I tried to add pics. I think I can only reliably reply with pics. I'm limited to my Palm Centro for net. So, I called PTO Specialties in Portland, as reccommended by another member. They're kind of drawing a blank so far. Their books are say...

Re: Body by Dodge. Power by Jag?
My Great Uncle has a 1979 chevy ambulance that my other Great Uncle kep' blowing 454s out of before he died. (another V8) Russ decided to circumvent Chuck's issues and install -are you ready for this?- A John Deere 329 diesel with turbo and late injectors in front of a cast iron NP540. It took six i...

Re: Body by Dodge. Power by Jag?
The 12 doesn't like cold starts because of a combination of the ignition advance and the manifold. I've been told they like ten or twelve degrees of advance for starting, and there's a big vacuum mess to make that happen. Also, the stock intake is not quite right. In building it to cram under a spor...

Re: Found an L series tractor I want
Let's see if this post works. There should be two pics of the L in Weiser. The owner's name is Gary Sh*tman, and a friend of mine was going to buy it for $1200. If i remember it has a 361 industrial in it.

Re: Gentlemen lock your trucks!
strangely enough, my '62 doesn't have provision for a lock on the driver's side door, and I think the passenger door is off another truck (and has a lock). It also has no radio holes in the dash, and an HD gauge set with the six.... a little bit of an oddball. My '64 has a provision for locks, but n...

Re: Body by Dodge. Power by Jag?
As to fuel and ignition, maybe an MSD trigger wheel job and some webers.... I'm really not a proponent of electronic anything. maybe the 12 might make a bit of power... As yet the only thing that seems to do that is the 300. Of course I installed a weber, an MSD, Harland Sharp roller rockers, and a ...

Re: Body by Dodge. Power by Jag?
No, not Dodge V8s... any V8. I have yet to see a V8 that runs worth a darn. I've got a 1964 Cadillac... Runs, just not well. I've got a '64 D200 with the poly... doesn't run well. never has. My friend Jerry with the 400 smallblock? it doesn't run worrh a sh..... well, you get the idea. Of the probab...

Body by Dodge. Power by Jag?
So, this local fellow has a '71 crew that bears a striking resemblance to Beetlejuice with all the moss growing on it... down side? no motor or trans. I have a spare 318 and 727, but I'm sick of V8s, 'cause the darn things never run worth a hoot. So there's this guy with a 5.3 liter jaguar 12... I'm...

Re: Found an L series tractor I want
it just so happens I have a pic of an L series truck built to haul a gooseneck. It lives northeast of Weiser, Idaho. It seems pic posting is broke under Blazer (palmos), or I'd post it. That tandem A body is a cool idea... but why not two steering drive axles at the front? search youtube for truck t...

Re: Is there a PTO genius out there somewhere?
I was told there is some question of what gears can be used. Someone somewhere said they installed a PTO, it all rotated by hand, however when they fed power to it, it bound. That does not make sense to me mechanically, but what does make sense is the gear can only be so deep from the center shaft b...

Re: Late '60s diesel
Perkins is a good engine. you find them in Massey Ferguson. I did find a swing-fender '65 dodge with an L series Cummins in it, but I think it was someone's conversion from a detroit.
