Re: Options for 4 speed
You are correct, the A833 is tall/narrow while the NP420 and NP435 are wider and the adapter plate ends up looking kind of like a "+" with a big hole in it and you do have to machine a couple of bolt clearance pockets in the bellhousing (nothing that would weaken it significantly). In the Job Rated ...

Re: Options for 4 speed
I still have a spare adapter plate from when I did my friend's conversion years ago, I'd still love to get my hands on one of the universal slant 6 V8 bellhousings to double check this conversion would work. There are other details to work out, such as checking transmission input shaft length vs bel...

Re: Options for 4 speed
I've thought about this some more and did some more reading, it appears the earlier Dodge trucks (like the Job Rated and Pilot House trucks from the 1950s and 1940s) used an NP420 4 speed transmission. This trans was the predecessor to the NP435 that is common in the Sweptline trucks with hydraulic ...

Automatic Truck Details
As I search for a truck, I'd prefer stick shift but I"m intrigued by some of the automatic equipped trucks that I've seen. My ultimate goal once I find a truck, stick or auto, would be to add overdrive. Here's what I'd like to know: What year automatic trucks were push button and what years had the ...

Re: 727 trans help
I second checking the oil. If it's not going into gear at all (versus slipping), that would indicate a pressure issue to me. Bad pump, no fluid or some other pressure related issue.

Ok, good information to know. Thank you for sharing, sounds like an awesome setup. Have any pictures of everything in your truck?

Re: Poly headers with Bruce Toth's adapters
Did your T-5 adapter plate work for the TKO 5 speed? Or do they have a different bolt pattern and bearing retainer diameter?

Re: Poly headers with Bruce Toth's adapters
Is Bruce Toth a member here? Would love to see pictures of the early Chrysler Hemi headers to 318 Poly head adapters. How do the ports line up between the 318 poly and Chrysler Hemi exhaust flanges?

Re: Options for 4 speed
Yes, the earlier Dodge trucks are the same. So if you can adapt the transmission to the original bell, do you have to fab a transmission cross member? Is there one in these trucks? The hydro bell was used in 61-68. The crossmember is factory and integral. 69-71 is a mechanical bell, totally differe...

Re: Options for 4 speed
Has anyone tried adapting an A833 4 speed in a 2WD truck with the stock hydraulic bellhousing? I'd like to get my hands on a universal slant 6/V8 bellhousing so I can measure and experiment. In another project for a friend, I adapted a A833 4 speed behind a 1955 Dodge 241 Hemi V8 using all the origi...

Re: Researching A833, still left with ???'s
Are you sure the braided steel cable isn't a hydraulic line going inside the bellhousing to a hydraulic throw out bearing?

Hi all, my name is Jon and I just joined the forum. I don't currently own a sweptline truck, but it is my goal to own one. I've had several Forward Look Mopars, I currently own a 1956 Imperial coupe and a 1960 Plymouth 9 passenger wagon. I'm in the process of selling a pair of 1960 and 1961 Plymouth...
