Re: Overdrive driveline
As it has the Dana, I'm going to speculate the truck is a D200. Does it have tall tires? If so, the 3.54:1 would be about as steep as you'd want to go. If the truck doesn't have tall tires/wheels, you may want to research how tall you could go and spend your money on rims/tires. If you're still not ...

Re: Truck won't start
If it is the original engine, they came with a "silent" timing chain, which means the top sprocket has fiber composition teeth. They start getting pretty worn by 80K miles and the chain will jump teeth. As it won't run at all, it would have been quite a bit of a jump. Remove the #1 spark plug, conne...

Re: 383 Exhaust questions
1) Is it reasonable to sourch repro exaust pieces and maybe mix and match with off the shelf pieces to cobble together a system? No 2) Single or dual system? It depends on how much you want to spend and if your truck is a racer or a truck. 3) Better to just pay a pro shop to handle the work? See be...

I don't know if this will help you, but here is the tightening reference from the 69-70 service manual:

It is probably worse thinking about it, than doing it. Then again, I'm thinking that truck must be a mile high to the cab floor.

Re: Flywheel balance
The cast iron crank 440s utilized a different harmonic balancer in conjunction with external balancing of the torque converter or flywheel. If you utilize the flywheel from a 383 you will need to re-balance to the assembly.

Re: 1965 D100 Master Cylinder
There is a fellow in MN that rebuilds the single cylinder brake and clutch master cylinders. He installs a stainless steel sleeve to repair pitted bores. I found this thread, I'm not sure if it is the same fellow, but they might get you taken care of: http://www.sweptline.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=...

Re: 1965 D100 Master Cylinder
I'd give some serious thought about moving to a dual master cylinder. It is a vast safety improvement, as if you have a hydraulic failure on one set of wheels, you still have brakes on the other. My first car was a '64 Dodge Coronet Wagon. The right front wheel cylinder failed without notice. I had ...

Re: Carburetor Re-Jetting
I thought about changing from ethanol to non-ethanol premium. However, I couldn't find any information on how they are increasing the octane to 92. I don't know if they were utilizing an additive or the more complex (higher cost) refining method. Straight gasoline has 30% more power than ethanol, bu...

Carburetor Re-Jetting
Well, I've been procrastinating re-jetting my sweptline's carburetor for nearly two years. The doubling of the price of gasoline finally prompted me to get it done, even though I only drove my sweptline approximately 2000 miles annually. My mileage was 13MPG city. I'm hoping for 18 MPG when I've com...

Re: Motor mount?
The actual motor mounts are available, new, from auto parts stores. The motor mount adapters, that bolt to the engine block, are going to be what you're hunting for from a salvage yard or similar. I'd start by posting a wanted to buy (WTB) on one of the several Facebook groups specific to sweptline ...

Re: I think I'm tossing the Carter 2 barrel
If you're utilizing a rubber hose to check fuel level, that maybe your problem. Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, my step-father had a tree service. One of our dump trucks was a '54 Chev with the tank behind the seat. We'd get hit by the fuel thieves on a pretty regular basis, as it was easy to ...

Re: I think I'm tossing the Carter 2 barrel
The BBD was built at Carter's St. Louis plant, which ceased operations in 1985. So finding the appropriate genuine Carter is a chance of slim to none. I do believe Holley did offer a BBD replacement. I source my Holley parts and carbs from All State Carburetor. If you're set on a replacement, you mi...

Re: I think I'm tossing the Carter 2 barrel
(A) The bowl has very little gas in it. It shouldn't be this dry after having run for 1-2 seconds for multiple times. Later today after church I will crank & see how much fuel is coming out of the line. (B) The accelerator pump "cup" is mutilated/distorted. I would have expected it to last longer t...

I must be a wuss. PS & PB were at the top of my must haves when sweptline shopping. I did give up A/C. However, now that we're re-locating to AL, I maybe on the hunt for an A/C dash, HVAC box, compressor and plumbing.

Optimizing Ignition Timing
Why Do I Need to Do This? Why do I need to do this? If I set it to factory specifications, for my stock truck, it should already be optimized, correct? Those are great questions and conclusions and if gasoline was the same as it was when your truck was manufactured, I'd agree. Gasoline Formulation/...

Re: Carter BB Accelerator pump question
This thread just furthers my desire to ditch my Carter & switch to the simpler brand. Bucky Ditto Jim's comments. The Carter BBD is a simple carburetor. They were utilized for decades, which speaks to their great design. Even though Carter ceased manufacturing them in 1985, they are still wel...
