It's a good reason why I want to. I was told on here that a 66 cab wouldnt fit on a 69 frame. So I took the bed off the 69 and I'm swapping the axles because I already bought rims for the 5 on 4 1/2. And the rims I bought were very expensive. So Im just going to take some leafs out of the springs and media blast the bed, paint it and call it my daily driver for awhile.

I going to do this because it will be a hotrod, the only thing I'll be hauling both figuratively and literally is @#%! Don't need that extra weight or extra 3 lugs. Get that mildly built 440 in there and away I go. -BDOregonDodgeboy wrote:My first thought is why?
Delusions of invincibility combined with a strong homicidal urge. I have a kick-your-@#% fetish.

I'll pass on what I learned when I lowered my A-100 pick-up I had many years ago. I talked to a guy at a spring shop that had many years experience at it. He told me that with my 7 leaf pack, the #3 was a ride height spring and the #5 is a load carrying spring. (Well, he told me exactly what each spring represented, but I only recall those two. )dodged200 wrote:And removing leafs from the springs? It's every other one correct? How many is too much?
He advised that I remove the third spring from all four corners, and the #5 from the rears only. The result was about 4" lower all around, smoother ride, and no noticable reduction in payload capacity. Later I hauled a heaping load of 3/4" minus gravel for a friend's driveway, that turned my 3" rake into about a 2" squat. Wish I had picts of it.
