Emergency Parking brake questions
I have few questions regarding the emergency/parking brake. I'm retrofitting the 68 diff into my 64. I have found a diagram in the FSM for the rear bracket where the two cables attach. I can make that one and have a spring somewhere. There wasn't diagrams in my books for the front or cable routing. Pictures and/or a description will help.
I don't see the routing of the cable from rear to front. Does it just run parallel inside the frame?
Since I have a 64 and had to make some bed brackets, obviously there aren't any witness holes. Where does the RH cable bolt to the frame when crossing over the driveshaft?
Is there a bracket up front for the cable from the handle or is it bolted to the frame or something.
Thanks Craig

Re: Emergency Parking brake questions
There is a bracket on the frame at about the back of the cab. The handle cable housing attaches there. The cable itself then connects to the center of a bar. The 2 rear cables attach to the ends of that bar. The rear cable housings are attached to a bracket on the frame much further back. The right rear cable is attached to the crossmember above the axle. Sorry I don't have any pics of all that handy.

Re: Emergency Parking brake questions
First of all, if you intend any off-road activity, IMO there is a problem with the driver's side cable from the diff tightening against that bracket in full droop that can even break the clips and cause chafing on the cable. It's the bottom one in this photo. I would do everything I could to run that cable as tight as possible so that I could move that bracket a couple of inches back.my5thmopar wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 9:20 pmI have few questions regarding the emergency/parking brake. Tnx for posting that pic Mark. Was really hard to remember the details and describe them at 10 pm in the dark last night night.

No off roading...I can barely go over a speed bump. Thanks for the picture, the diagram in the manual was a little unclear. Have one of the front? Still, there's nothing saying that suspension won't go through full droop. I really don't know why Dodge allowed that situation to persist for even a year. All it would take to make it possible to move the bracket it is a long nut, a piece of all thread, nut a few drops of red loctite. Take out the two rivets, bolt up a piece of plate, and it's done.
Weed season is at crisis level right now. So it's good to take a minute to think of something else.

Re: Emergency Parking brake questions
Wow you guys rock with the advice and photos. I plan on making some brackets and getting this working next week. Thanks Craig

90 degrees. "Same mounting holes in the frame" but drilled 2 new holes in the bracket @ 90 degrees to the factory bracket holes.

Very nice. I take it this is a lowered truck?Series1Utiline wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 11:06 am90 degrees. "Same mounting holes in the frame" but drilled 2 new holes in the bracket @ 90 degrees to the factory bracket holes.
You just solved a problem for me. If you look up the thread at my first reply, it shows the problematic geometry of the driver's side e-brake cable when the suspension is in full droop on all three of my W200s (https://www.sweptline.org/forums/viewto ... 60#p307060). Now that you show this, I realized that it is because the lift blocks raise the frame above the axle such that the hypotenuse formed by the cable is too tight when the axle droops to its limit. Now that I know the "why" of it, I get to figure out what to do about it.

Re: Emergency Parking brake questions
Yes, my truck is lowered but I may have made this change anyway. I had "run into" the bracket a few times as it was when I was under the truck working on things. Initially I was just going to round the corners of the bracket and then realized how easy it would be to flip the bracket while still maintaining the original position of the cables.

Re: Emergency Parking brake questions
Looks great. That explains why the first pic was unclear re the rotation angle.
