Door adjustment, tighter close
I searched topics about this but couldn't find anything in enough detail.....Both of my doors I am putting back together on my '67 do not close tight enough. I have adjusted the striker inwards (toward the interior of the truck) as far as it will go. The star wheel looks ok but then again I don't know what they looked like new.
any advise would be appreciated.

Do u have good door seals? You'll never get it tight enough w/o them.

My passenger door closes tight enough when I remove the striker (with no weather strip). When I put the striker on it will not close tight enough, even when I adjust the striker as far inward as the B piller allows. When I go to dry fit the seal with painters tape it just pushes the door even further out.
My drivers door latches and I have moved the striker as far inward as it will go. If you push in on the already latched closed door it will close enough but it won't stay in that position. The door comes out quite a bit while latched on its own. I haven't put weather strip on it yet but that will only apply pressure pushing the door out wards even more.
I don't want to put the weather strip on yet in case have to blow the doors apart again because of these issues. But if that has to happen I may feel like selling it instead! lol Man I hate these doors

It "almost" sounds like you may have the striker in TOO FAR. That gives the same result as not having it in far enough. MAKE SURE that when you close the door, it catches on BOTH catches. Try backing the striker out a little bit.

ah....I've been meaning to contact you and ask you that very question Jim. I'll have to try that next. I have noticed that there is 2 layers of metal where the sloted holes are that my striker bolts through, one of the layers is sort of misaligned and does not give me full use of the slotted hole. I may have to give that some messaging too if that doesn't work.
On another note Jim, the vent window handle came off really easy as you told me. It's back from the chromer's and the vent frame and window are back in! New baby's healthy and doing well, just not a lot of time to spend on the truck.

Good you got the handle off too!!
Just try to move the striker out to the outer edge, and then you'll know if it catches on BOTH catches. Then, move it in with small adjustments. Use a pencil to mark where it was and then each time you move it, you'll see how much. They also "rotate" a little bit, so make sure it is "square" and not binding.

"Catches" = Those "clicks". So, the FIRST Click (catch) is the safety catch. The second CLICK (catch) is the LOCKED position. It's so "IF" your door isn't fully closed, it won't fly open on you.
It should "click" or "catch" two times.
So, "IF" you close the door very lightly, it'll catch on the fist one and you'll see that the door is closed, but NOT all the way. The second one will close it all the way when you close the door harder (without slamming it)
Know what I mean?

Yeah, that's exactly right.
If it is in too far, than the "star wheel" can't reach it, hence it won't close all the way. But, it will STILL catch on the first "catch" (The 1st "click")
OH... and just so you folks know, you should not have to slam a door to get it to close right.

Yes, it is only catching on the first one. Move it out just a bit, then try it... you may have to adjust it a couple times to get the door to close properly on the 2nd click/catch PLUS keeping the door "tight" against the rubber.

Ok I don't have a lot of play but I moved out the strikers as far out as I could but still no second click.
I'm racking my brain trying to figure the stupid thing that I'm forgetting. I'm hesitating to make the slots bigger, it's probably some thing obvious I'm missing

I looked in my service manual, and all it says is that there is slots to help with adjustments. Not very helpful, they also recommend some "Motor Oil" on the rotating wheel.
SO, Try this, HOLD the Door handle BUTTON IN while spinning the star wheel. It should spin freely. I'll see about uploading a picture of what the service manual says, but like I said, it isn't very helpful.

hey guys. 66 d100 Sweptline. So I rebuilt my driver door hinge using the process found elsewhere in this forum. After hanging the door, it swings really smooth and I have adjusted it so it hits the star wheel ok. But now the star wheel will not turn when closing door UNLESS I hold door handle open. Door will then close. And now there is no "click" like the door use to when closing. but door seems locked...... Was the clicking because the door was sagging? Not sure how to proceed. Any advice would be greatly apricated.
