Re: My tiny house build
had an ordeal trying to find the original sewer pipe in the yard......was waiting on a guy to come out with his backhoe to dig for it for about a month, he never has gotten back to me, so my uncle got his old backhoe working and came and did it for me
essentially dug from property line to property line in the back looking for the lateral line that goes to the main sewer in the back alley........couldn't find it.....- facechicken

Re: My tiny house build
so we moved up to where the back of the original house, that was torn down, was and dug at an angle to see if for some reason it was tied into the neighbors house......turns out there used to be some old trees and sheds at the back end of my property back by the alley......they ran sewer pipe at a diagonal into my neighbors backyard (their house is newer than the one that was torn down by about 60 years) and the neighbors splices into a y into this old house's sewer pipe that was run to avoid the stuff in the backyard.......
we found it in this hole.....- facechicken

Re: My tiny house build
only took about 4 hours...thank god my uncle decided to come do it, otherwise it may have cost a shitload for the guy that I was gonna pay to do it but I am still gonna pay my uncle some since he helped out....whether that is in the form of filling his tractor with fuel (which I am going to do regardless of what he says) or in the form of whiskey, or in the form of me helping him on his farm or all of the above
Re: My tiny house build
Pay him on the "assumption" that he'll be needed at your property again.facechicken wrote: ↑Wed May 23, 2018 9:50 amonly took about 4 hours...thank god my uncle decided to come do it, otherwise it may have cost a shitload for the guy that I was gonna pay to do it but I am still gonna pay my uncle some since he helped out....whether that is in the form of filling his tractor with fuel (which I am going to do regardless of what he says) or in the form of whiskey, or in the form of me helping him on his farm or all of the above

Re: My tiny house build
My accomplishment for the weekend was testing the sewer pipe we found and making sure it works....ran a snake camera down it to verify that it didn't have roots in it, then ran a garden hose on full for over 30 minutes....not a single hint of water coming back up the pipe and no sinkholes in the yard
that big chunk of pipe we ripped out with the backhoe, we did verify that there was no damage to the remaining pipe My neighbor lady is too nice to me letting me use her garden hose and water (she is also the one that sold me the land)- facechicken

Re: My tiny house build
gonna put the pipe in tonight after work and get it all buried back up (its supposed to rain tomorrow). Also I got the really fine rock to cover the floor in the crawl space....only had a rake and shovel to move it all around, it was like my own little zen garden

Re: My tiny house build
so the sewer is all hooked up and we got a new water meter tube installed and the water line trenched. Hopefully this weekend we get the water line run and ready to go. Once that is done its time to start building the floor

Re: My tiny house build
when we were trenching the water line we ran into an unmarked gas pipe about a foot down in the ground, so we had to call the gas company to come verify if it was live or not. It wasn't but it still stopped us for a day. When they tore the old house down, the gas company unhooked their end and they just left the pipe buried in the yard, so we used the back hoe and ripped it out

Re: My tiny house build
so this weekend I created a water leak in the main inlet on the cities side of the water meter...it wasn't a major leak, and they said I probably would when I hooked up to it, it was a little dribble from where the old glue gave out on the connector.....anyways they came out and fixed it today and even hooked up my water line to it for free while they were there.....bunch of nice guys

The words "free" & "city" don't get used too often around here. I would be expecting a bill.

Don't need JH's when joist ends are on a solid surface. 1- 1/8 " tung/groove decking,cement and screws ( me like) .PwrWgnDrvr wrote: ↑Sun Jul 01, 2018 11:33 amNo joist hangers?

Re: My tiny house build
I have a guy helping me that been building houses for over 40 years, he shows me what to do and I do it he never said anything about the joist hangers, I will ask him though.....that access hole is also going to be directly under our bed so there wont be traffic on it, which may be why he said to use two boards on each side of the opening between the joists or he may plan to address it later. I do plan to build a ladder down to the floor. We are gluing the floor to the joists also

Re: My tiny house build
Good insurance for the price of a half dozen joist hangers.facechicken wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 6:24 amI have a guy helping me that been building houses for over 40 years, he shows me what to do and I do it he never said anything about the joist hangers, I will ask him though.....that access hole is also going to be directly under our bed so there wont be traffic on it, which may be why he said to use two boards on each side of the opening between the joists or he may plan to address it later. Re: My tiny house build
In the top picture of your floor framing, it looks like a gap (board cut too short) for the opening into the crawlspace. I was thinking joist hangers would be a good idea when I first saw that. The nails may bend and/or the floor may move in that area and all the way to the rim joist.
