Auto Trans
Looking into possibly pulling the three-speed standard trans and replacing it with an automatic in my 61 D100 225 /6. Any suggestions?

Re: Auto Trans
I have a slanty 904 automatic if you go that route and need one. Out of a `65 Dart so it has flange output.

Re: Auto Trans
The '65 dart 904 is also cable shifted (PITA). I would look for a later model 727. ( and remember all the stuff you will need: spanner, cross member, shifter, drive shaft, radiator, and other. )pismopowerwagon wrote:I have a slanty 904 automatic if you go that route and need one. The old three on the tree keeps looking better. Didn't realize how much a pain in the @#% it would be.

Re: Auto Trans
Yes, PITA.......if you were to make the change, it would be cool to find a poly/727/push button unit to keep it period correct. a lot of options for the poly these days.61stepside wrote:The old three on the tree keeps looking better. Didn't realize how much a pain in the @#% it would be.

Re: Auto Trans
The stock auto for a 61 was a predicessor to the A727 called the A488 and it was cast iron. 1961 and prior engines used an 8 bolt crankshaft and flywheel.

Re: Auto Trans
Another thing, there was an adapter between the engine and transmission on early 60s slant 6 trucks since they used the same transmission as the poly V8 trucks. Later there was a separate transmission used for the slant 6.
