why? I don't get it.
it's not like someone is going to go make himself a license plate to match.
is it that easy to lookup a license plate to determine the owner and, if so, why do I care?
same with my vin.

Re: masking license plate on vehicle for sale
I sold my 68 D100 without a title. The buyer and I went to the DVS with a bill of sale and photographs of all 4 sides of the vehicle so he could register it. I don't know if there was any follow up on his end where it needed to be inspected in person. It's possible an untitled vehicle could be titled with just a VIN in some locales.
I heard of a few people having a police officer knock on their door and state their vehicle was involved in a hit and run. Possibly some kind of insurance scam by the person reporting it?
The less information other people have the better. That being said, I've never covered my plates in photos.

Re: masking license plate on vehicle for sale
I helped someone find their stolen car once using the old plate, vin, publicdata search and Google street view. I know people who look at for sale ads not for what’s being sold but what’s in the yard around it. I’m sure that the slow driving looky-loos that sometimes drive by my house are doing the same thing.hmaynord wrote:why? I don't get it.

Re: masking license plate on vehicle for sale
That reminds me when someone posted a huge stash of old Dodge trucks, we're talking over 100. I found the place using a few clues from the photos, one of which was a dealer plate on the front of an old car.
