1971 D200 Longbed Camper Special

Post by OKCSweptline »

Hopefully this picture works, it was being weird at first.

I am new to the forum (first post). Just bought my first truck. It's a '71 D200 Longbed Camper Special....
Going to slowly buy parts and fix it up. I don't want to paint it, yet.

It has the original wheels. What size tire would you recommend putting on it? The current ones are 285/75/16, and I think they are a little big.

Thanks!!

I think the paint is perfect too.... I don't think I will paint it. If I do it is going to be a ways down the road.

Do you (or anyone else here) know where to get the covers/doors for the auxillary tanks? You can see the aluminum covers/doors in the picture.

Thanks

Does anyone know what color this truck is? I can't find any color codes or color matches at all.... I need to touch up the inside door panel, but I can't find any paint to match.

Not sure looks gold-ish but, I don't think that color was offered in 71. Maybe medium tan 2219 or light tan poly 2217 . Hang on someone else will chime in.

I don't think it is any kind of tan... It is more green than anything. If you look at it close, there is almost a gold looking tint in the green.

I figured if it was painted, I could find the original paint color somewhere... But the entire truck is this color... I'm stumped.

Apparently some of the 1970 colors were still available as a spring color and carry over in 71. So its possible it is one of 70. Do a google search and there are several paint references online.

I have a '71 W200 that is gold from the factory. Under the gold, is a similar color tonally that was the under the metallic gold color--and it looks a lot like your truck. What's (color) under the hood?
I like your wheels fine.

The color could be Y4 Light Poly Gold/ Citron Mist Iridescent.
Or Y8 Gold Leaf.

Wow, haven't been on here in a while. Lol. Drew, it's the same color as the rest of the truck I believe. Never really payed attention.

JPA, I think it's Spanish Gold Iridescent. Closest thing I can find to it amyway. Think it's '69 color.

An April 71 add. The four special colors were: Medium Blue metallic, Medium Green Metallic, Moss Green Metallic and Tan Metallic.

Can't find any pics of Moss Green Metallic, but none of the other colors match.
Spanish gold iridescent is the closest thing I can find.

Funny how that works. My truck is light green metallic or so I'm told. There are places all over the truck that really have a lime green appearance. I even pulled the gas tank only to have the same confusion persist. I used a Google search only to have absolutely no clue still. I'm told some body shops have an electronic tool that can tell what the color is. You just need an area that hasn't been affected by the elements in order to get a true color match. All of the patina 'ed paint is a thing of the past. The newer paints will never look this way again with aging.

I'm just gonna go with spanish gold iridescent aND be done with it. Lol. Doesn't really matter to me, I was just curious. This is the only d200 I've seen in the same color.
