front cab mount picts needed

Post by shopguy »

We are getting ready to fix the rot box floors in the 65 D100. Floor rotted, cab mount end plate pieces came off with the front fenders, rockers were patched previously - poorly :pale Its a mess. Looking under it now, nothing connects the floors with the frame cab mount bracket. Once we have the Exline pieces in hand.....we'll have to somehow figure out where it goes, and how to tie it in with existing sheet metal.

Request: As many close up detail picts as possible of a good solid (repaired or orig.) front cab mount

since we plan to do rockers, cab mount, floors and a bit of fender work, we need details on EVERYTHING in that area!

We have Jims 68 CD. some good shots...but more is needed.

thanks.

Does the body section of the manual help at all?

No, it does not sit metal to metal.... See pic of the pads and spacers. (found in the NOTES section of the Sweptline Restoration CD. OR also found in a factory service manual) :salut The pads are really nothing more than THICK rubber. I used the sidewall of an old tire. Others have used pieces of conveyor belts.

Jim I think he is asking about the floor pan to the cab mount bracket. Your showing cab mount bracket/floor pan to the frame.

Shopguy, yes, floor pan is flush and spot welded to the cab mount bracket. There is small gap on front edge of cab bracket between floor pan that is filled with seam sealer. Not sure if I have a picture of that.

Right; this is where I have the confusion. Lets call the cab bracket, what is welded to the cab. And the cab MOUNT; the frame mounted bracket.

Now is it only the front edge of the floor spot welded to the cab bracket? or is the entire floor surface touching the cab bracket? If it is completely touching, and water gets in, seems to be the likely issue of so much rot.

Either way; my cab bracket and floor section AND inner rocker are pretty much gone, so I need to figure how to align and make everything fairly close. I also have to figure out how to get the back side lower fender holes (2 per side) to line up, and get nuts welded in. fun fun fun!!!!

I have exline complete rockers and cab mounts coming in, that should help greatly. all the other areas will get reinforced the polish way....overkill. lol.

I'm not concerned with OEM looks, but SOLID and safe is what I want.

Any and all more detail is helpful!!! Thank you.

Kenny Exline trucks makes the complete cab mount. mount and endplate - 16ga. I think. thats what I'm going with. Its a complicated piece to knock out yourself unless you have the tools and time..... http://www.exlinecustomauto.com/custom-services.html

Try weld through primer or zero rust between pieces, You'll have to clean spot weld locations with zero rust though. I used zero rust on mine.
