engine making ticking sound

Post by Jake66 »

hey guys, so previously i had snapped a bolt off in the head of my 360 small block and tried extracting it, didn't work. drilled it out and re-threaded the hole. so now i can tighten up my exhaust manifold. well the noise has not gone away. i thought it was noisy because of an exhaust leak. but it sounds like a stuck valve. i have dual exhaust so each head is isolated. on the bank that is giving me troubles i can feel a suction on the tail pipe while the engine is running. anyone have some ideas of what i can do to try and free up this lifter? or what else it might be?

:pale ill replace an engine with a big block if i can fix it. anyone wanna sell me a 413 wedge or a 440? :Thumbsup

Kim gave me an idea to use ATF in the oil and once the lifter frees up to do an oil change.

changing old engine oil

until recently, truck has been sitting with bad clutch for several years.
every 3 months or so, would charge battery, start and bring up to operating temp.
will do oil change now. engine not making any unusual noises.
wonder about, as a preventative measure, run with rislone or similar for 100 miles or so and change again.
suggestions?

I have done the ATF fluid before but you have to remember that any type of cleaner additive in the oil removes all types of buildup. Pay close attention to the engine while doing anything like this. If the buildup allows the oil pump to function and you remove it... You may expose other issues.

exactly the kind of info I was looking for.
think I'll do just oil, no additives
