pic request patina
pic request patina
I'm thinking really hard about a fauxtina paint job. I'd like some pictures of natural patina to kind of base my paint job off of. I need all angles, even door jambs, engine compartment, dash etc. Also, I think I want to put a old topper on it. Anyone have pics of that, would be great also. Thanks

Door jams were mint because the sun couldn't get there to burn it off. This is what 40 years in the Az. sun does.

I can take more pictures if this is the kind of look you're going for.
Re: pic request patina
Both look great. The more pictures the better. I need a good idea of how our trucks aged.

Yeah that never looks good. Looks like someone got crazy with a can of red oxide. Whats wrong with your current paint?

Yes, that could possibly turn out as bad as a " FauxJ-LO".wally426ci wrote:Yeah that never looks good. Looks like someone got crazy with a can of red oxide. Whats wrong with your current paint?

Re: pic request patina
There is no current paint. I like the natural elements look but around here its more rust thru than surface rust. Plus its going to be used as a truck and I'm not sure I want to ruin a nice basecoat clearcoat showtime paint job. So I saw a few faux paint jobs that look good and I'm thinking it might be quicker and cheaper just to go this route. Still not sure because the one pictured probably has tons of man hours and paint wrapped up in it. And I agree some look pretty cheesy.

Kidding aside, if is just going to be a driver, why not just do a simple single stage 20 footer paint job. If you do most of the prep, Macco does ok. They are running a special in this area.

Well, because that's not me. Id rather sell it than not put much effort into doing it right.

Stare at that last sentence for a little while...... really though, it is your truck to do what you'd like.

Re: pic request patina
OK, so you want to do a paint job, but not a paint job. Either way, you are going to expend time, effort and cash to accomplish this. So, why not actually PAINT the truck, instead? Fake patina, to me, is like a rubber dog turd, in that a real dog turd is bad enough, and that there are people that WANT fake dog turds is mind-boggling to my thoughts. I have real "patina" on both of my trucks, and I can't wait to get rid of that look! Just clear-coat what you have and roll with it, or paint the truck. Remember, you started this thread. Don't be surprised if some responses are not to your liking.dodged200 wrote:Well, because that's not me. Id rather sell it than not put much effort into doing it right.

Re: pic request patina
OK, to me a 20 foot paint job is half @#% doing it. So its all out either way for me. If I paint it like every other truck I'm sure a few people will stop and admire. If I do a flat paint job, which I'm also considering it will probably get a few more people looking. But if I put a faux patina paint job that looks as good as that 79 Chevy, I will have tons of people stopping and asking questions and possibly get a few customers because its not something you see much. I started the thread to get pictures not opinions. I'm sure there are things you guys like that i think are terrible but I keep it to myself because I'm sure you wouldn't care about my opinion.

Re: pic request patina
Everyone loved my blue and surface rust sweptline (the one above). No one likes these trucks so they can be like everyone else, lets just help the guy out rather than tick him off sweptlines forever. Trust me he'll get lots of attention with it painted the way he wants.

Re: pic request patina
Here's a link to quite a few sweptline pictures I have gathered. There are 3 sub albums divided by different front ends. Should be plenty of them with patina in there

BTW, this is a $500 Earl Scheib paint job. I did prep work and let them shoot it, single stage( about 15yrs ago).

I like this idea better as long as it isn't Black.dodged200 wrote:. If I do a flat paint job, which I'm also considering it will probably get a few more people looking.
