Warn Locking Hub Question
For a good number of the '61-'68 W100s & W200s the Warn "M7"
lock-out hub was used as original equipment. According to Warn
Industries, these worked on Dodge DANA 44 axles from '59-'74.
The "M7" is marked in the finger recess of the lock-out dial.
I recently came across some NOS Warn M15E lock-out hubs.
As with the M7, the "M15E" is also marked in the finger recess
of the lock-out dial. It is, in general, the same in appearance
as the M7. I am wondering if anyone out there has the M15E
lock-outs on their W100 ['61-'68] or W200 ['61-'71]??
Warn Industries also lists this as being used on '59-'74 Dodge

wondering if the M15E could be specific to the early 6 lug half ton
and later ['69-'74] five lug half ton DANA 44s?

I have a couple of NOS M15E warn clutch assemblys too.(no hub assemblys unfortunately) From what I can gather they were a premium option for the 70 to 74 trucks.They are an auto locking hub,so the clutch @#%. is like the m7 but the hub @#%. has a few extra parts for the auto feature. From what I have read they are a good hub. Did you get both the clutch and hub part ?

I know that there were two items per side in the box... [two "dials" and
two "collars" of the same diameter]. I saw them while going through a dealership
that Chrysler Corp. ordered to be closed down. If they worked on the Sweptline
era 8 lug Dana 44, I was going to see if I could buy them. I couldn't find any
information about them during a brief on-line search.... so I called Warn
Industries to see what they could tell me.

I see the hubs have studs in them to mount the lock outs, I keep shering off the bolts I am using to mount my hubs, do it every year, I wonder if studs would be stronger. I have the same lockouts on my power wagon, bought the hubs new, not sure if they say m7 or not, doubt it, but they are identical to what you have pictured.

I pulled apart my 1971 w200 and the locking hub studs were pretty beat up. It looks like the M166 pictured above. One can order the WARN 34696 kit (qty 12 with washers & nuts) for about $70-90+, or Fastenal 11105071, not exact but very close. (Qty 10, Grade 8, studs only; $53 shipped to Denver, CO). I should be able to use at least 2 studs again of the 12, and most of the nuts, or use locking nuts.

If anyone needs a picture of the parts breakdown of the M7 through to the M49 locking hub I have an original one that came with the hubs when new.
I also have one for the next generation Warn Hub like those used on the 70/71 w 200 trucks.Not nearly as interesting as the M7 to M49 Series.

I disassembled, cleaned and reassembled the hub yesterday, (over)confidently assuming I could put everything back together. The WARN 7302 kit specified by the WARN website ( https://www.warn.com/truck/hubs/premium ... _chart.jsp ) for my W200 3/4 ton '71 had extra parts, namely two versions of the outer gasket (the correct one was obvious) and a small circlip per side. The kit does both sides so there were a total of two in the kit.
When I was assembling it I could not find a place for the single smaller circlip that I'm sure I took out. It's the same as the two included in the 7302 kit. There should be a groove for a circlip and it shouldn't have to open excessively to fit into the groove. I found this PDF doc ( http://vintage.mitchell1.com/PClubData/ ... 749078.pdf ) which says it applies to the M166 and shows an exploded diagram very close to my hub. What I don't understand is how I am missing the two parts on each side of the Axle Shaft Hub. One looks like my mysterious small circlip. The other which I don't have looks like a washer which would fit over the long side of the Axle Shaft Hub between the teeth and the Needle Bearing. I think it would work fine without the circlip (which doesn't have a home?) and the washer (which i never had). The only other washer was the the very thin flexible steel washer that fit under the outer large circlip which snaps onto the Control Knob.
There's a really big and thin o-ring that was included in the kit also. I don't think I need that.
I've attached a pic of the inside surface of the locking hub showing the installed circlip on the Axle Shaft Hub and the 'extra' small circlip laying on top of it for size comparison.
a) Is my M166 labeled hub really a 9072 model, as listed on the WARN premium_application_chart?
b) Could the missing washer for the Axle Shaft Hub be lost in a previous rebuild?
c) Could the previous rebuilder have 'found a place' for the small circlip that didn't really fit?
d) Is the small circlip included in the 7302 rebuild kit for another version and I can toss it?
e) Any recommended source for this missing washer? Hardware store, auto parts store? Washers-R-UsOnly? Only the ID would be critical, i think.

I figured out that the circlip goes on the end of the drive splined shaft. It's the one that comes in the maintenance kit. The first left hub came straight off fully intact at the hub body studs because this shaft circlip wasn't holding.
When I took off the right side hub, the hub body would not come off until I removed the Clutch Body held on by the 6 hex head bolts. The right circlip was holding the body from coming off.
I apparently lost the shim washer (just left of the Axle Shaft Hub, 0.015 " thickness, 1.51" I.D., 1.78" O.D., steel) from the left hub that I took off first. Or it was never there. I think it will be hard to find a replacement. I'll try to call WARN for one. Answering my questions: a) yes; b) I probably lost it.; c) No, it was loosely on the splined shaft.; d) The kit included smaller circlip belong on the splined shaft.; e) Best might be WARN, or a junkyard.

The M15D hub looks like the M7, and apparently like the M15E. My '69 W200 Crewcab w/ 3500# Dana 44 (large knuckle) has this hub.

Dredging up an old thread
Getting ready to rebuild my hubs (M7) I have also had a problem with the bolts backing off ending up with loose hubs, so I will be installing the stud kit and trying out the 7302 rebuild kit.
Dodgeboykim, you mention a parts breakdown, what are the possibilities of getting a copy?
