Braden Winch repair?

Post by OrangeRoughy »

I checked "search" for any posts from guys who may have tackled re-building their Braden winch. Mine, the exterior clutch engagement mechanism was frozen (a common issue I know) and the handle even broke off. Was thinking tackling a rebuild if I can find good step by step info and the parts of course...

Thanks

We have rebuilt a few LU-2 winches on our Power Wagons. We have bought parts from Stewart Wholesale out of Oklahoma.
Call Les with the parts numbers at (405) 273-1813. They should be able to help you out.

Successfully rebuilt my winch thanks to the above info. Earlier today "winched" my brothers F-250 across the field as a test...no problem

Also, Les was quite helpful, very nice guy. Thanks!

WOW cool info, my winch's clutch is frozen too, I have been thinking to take it apart and rebuild it. Somewhere along the line, someone must have put the winch in gear thinking they were engaging the front axle. Beccause the strap across the fair lead top is sucked in big time on my truck, LOL.

Finished repairs on Braden winch from a 57 GMC civil defence panel truck. Angle frame was bent to a point where I had to cut it out and fabricate a new one. Also repair clutch housing.

Thought I would post to this thread even though it is over a decade old.

I am near the completion of a 68 W200 frame off restoration. It has a Braden PTO Winch with custom front bumper. Custom period "farmers" lift with custom period ladder bars. It was a USFS truck that a millwright bought and used to build a log cabin. Cab and box were totally trashed. I found a 1968 box (frame/box is 6" longer) and substituted a 63 cab (used 68 dash) because I had it and wanted the double headlight look and refrigerator style door handles.

Over not rebuilt the winch yet but rebuilt all the PTO drive shafts and bearings.

Nice Power Wagon! I've rebuilt a couple LU2 winches since the original post and some parts are still available.
Hoping to get to restoring my Dads 64 W200 in the next few years. Looks very similar to your rig but 50 year old metallic green.
