OEM Battery Hold-Down
OEM Battery Hold-Down
Hello,
I was curious if anyone had a picture of the OEM battery hold-down for a 1965 or 1970 Power Wagon (I have one of each). Thanks to MoPat I have a really nice battery tray, but thought I would ask before I started thinking about it. Thanks!

Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
Mancini has a large selection of hold downs, including the one pictured above and J hooks.
They are considerably cheaper for the reproductions.

Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
This auction shows the correct P/N BUT the holes in the strap shown are too small for trucks...
They are different than the 1970-71 car versions (3404404, 3404405) as the holes are larger. The trucks had larger diameter battery hold down bolts.
The truck P/N is 1828352 and is common to only Trucks and 1970-71 Imperial...according to the Parts books.
The inner bolt is P/N 1924103 5/16"-18 X 9 5/8 and the outer is P/N 1408918 3/8"-16 X 10 5/8 (both are gone ...NS1.... I think)
These Straps are still available from the Dodge Dealer...Chrysler Part Number...1828352
MUCH CHEAPER TOO!!!
Make sure to get the right one from Dodge...and you can get the bigger J-Bolts from an Auveco distributer...
Atlas Obsolete Motor Parts Inc. has them in a kit with Strap-Bolts-Warning Decal....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Battery- ... 0121627964
I have no answer for the outboard hold down bolt with the cotter pin hole...other than to get a bolt at ACE Hardware...and drill the hole.

Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
I don't think the one shown in the Atlas Obsolete auction is correct for a Sweptline, at least not for a 69. The one shown in the Ebay auction that I posted earlier is exactly like the original one that was on my 69 truck. I have since replaced it with a reproduction. I only posted that auction for reference, The price was way high. I paid $20 for my repop.

Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
When I received my new 1828352 straps from Dodge...they were the style in the auction that has the 45 degree angles (same as 69-70 B-Body), but obviously have the larger holes......as opposed to the one at Atlas that has the 90 degree angles (similar to early 60's cars) ...Honestly I didn't know which style was what the straps looked like in the 60's...
so I have some of both styles...
BUT the one in the Ebay auction most surely does not have the larger holes...so it is B-Body as opposed to "Truck"...
I would get mine from Dodge as my first choice!
Russ, are you verifying that the 45 degree style is what "OEM NOS" looked like?
Thanks

Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
My truck was totally original when I got it. It had the 45 degree style that looked to be original and in decent condition and still had the bolt with a cotter pin through it on the outside and an "L" bolt with a head like a large nail on the bottom end on the engine side. The hold down piece was still good but had some of the rubber covering separating from the steel frame due to corrosion. I looked on Ebay and found a new one that exactly matched but I don't remember what it was advertised to fit. It has two sets of holes in each end just like the original one so I would assume that it was made to fit more than one Mopar model. It all looked factory but now I'm wondering if it is. My hold down bolts are 5/16, not 3/8 as you say a truck should have.
Kyle has a 70 or 71 Sweptline with less than 1000 miles on it which is totally original. Maybe he can verify what an original looks like.

Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
I was digging through some stuff tonite and found the one from a 70 I parted.
The truck was in very original condition. The hold down on it is 45 degrees on one side,
and 90 on the other. It also has the larger holes. The pinned carriage bolt was still there,
but it was 5/16" and looking very original (ratty). The hook side appeared to have been
replaced, it was 1/4" and much better condition.

I'll be at the shop this weekend workin on the D300, I'll take a few pictures of the J bolts if you want to call them that and post. I am actually trying to come up with a set for the D300 now.

Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
I realize this is an old post, but wanted to confirm for future readers that the ‘66-‘71 battery hold down clamp is OEM p/n 1828352 or Hoffman’s Winner Circle p/n BHD03S. This is the same hold down used on all ’66-’69 Dodge car body styles. They are available from multiple suppliers. Just replaced the aftermarket hold down and battery tray rubber mat on my 1967 D100.
Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
Appreciate all the detail of this thread. Great image.
Does anyone have any pics of the fender side? Assume there is a hole or mount for the J hook/bolt.
Reason - I am in the final stages of a frame off restoration of a 68 W200 that I I have put a 63 cab on (I prefer the twin headlights and "refrigerator" style door handles). Fender from 63 does not have a hole so I am trying to figure out where to put one.
I have a running 66-67 W200 shortbed that has a hole in the fender but I am not sure if it is the original size/location. Have set that truck up with a second battery on an isolator to run a 12,500 lb electric winch. Have added a second battery tray to the 63/68 to run some additional electronics off a separate set of wires/system.

Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
Its actually a long carriage style bolt bolt with a hole drilled through flat square part to run a cotter pin or long split pin. Square hole next to Battery/fender.
My truck is younger than me.

Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
Thanks.
So (without a picture) ...
1. The "hole" on yours is drilled down into the flat edge of the fender next to the battery tray. Not in the sidewall of the fender. Was wondering because one of the bolts on reproduction looks longer than the other. My 66/67 actual has a hole up in the sidewall of the fender not down in the flat edge.
2. The hole on yours on the fender side is offset so you need to use the 45° style hold down rather than a conventional straight one? That is the way your picture looks.
3. There are no holes in the top of the battery tray itself (other than to drain water)?

Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
Interesting.
You might find this interesting.
Of the 4 Sweptlines I have 3 are short beds - 63, 66, 67. All had/have the larger axles (like the 68 W200 long bed I am working on). All have the same transfer case (2 have PTO winch setups)
Per the tag, the 63 had a 225 slant six (gone when I got it) was a 3 speed, and 1350 lb springs on front and rear.
Per the tag, the 66 had a 318 (replaced by a 360 when I got it), a 4 speed. and 1550 frt springs and 1750 rear.
Both these have w100 emblems and 3000 frt axle capacity and 4500 lb rear axle capacity per tag
The 68 W200 was all original - 318, 4 speed, 1500 lb front springs and 1750 lb rear springs with an add on "Springs A" - Ser N #19588 - this gives it a front axle capacity of 3000 lbs and a rear axle capacity of 5500 lbs - all per tag
the 67 short bed has no tag. It does not have the original 318 (replaced in 1972), but it does have the original 4 speed. It has the exact same axles and spring setup/count as the 68 W200 and W200 emblems on both front fenders. So I guess someone either swapped out the fenders or the emblems.
I do have some vintage dealer marketing literature on these trucks that I picked up at the Portland swap meet ... will see what it indicates.

Re: OEM Battery Hold-Down
Yes, all W100 and W200's from 61-68 used the same drive train and axles. The difference was primarily only that W100's were short bed and W200's were long bed. That changed in 69.
